please read this for more info:
http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=178441

basically there are two options: we can have it the way it is now, where submitters are able to remove comments from their submissions or i can revoke their ability so that only staff can.

pros
-one less thing to "report" to the staff members for inappropriate content (ie bashing).

cons
-legitimate posts may be deleted because the submitters cant take criticisms
-its harder to point out its a "jocked" layout - since the submitter can remove the comment.

I think that the submitter of the layout should atleast have the say so of what comments stay and what comments don't. I mean, seriously, when making a layout, people spend a lot of time on it, so they should atleast have control of that.

However, I do see your reason for asking the question. There are some cons to it!

^ agreed

there doesn't need to be "bashing" comments, i don't see hardly any of those now, but i don't know if that's just because they get deleted or there just isn't many

but overall i think making sure jocking gets called to attention is most important

^ I agree with you too.

I think you should make it that only staff can delete comments and the member just have to ask the staff to remove it.

This situation I'm iffy about. For some reason, I had it in my head that the designer would be able to delete comments but it would then be sent to a moderator to approve or decline it. So I'd have to side with the "letting the mods decide".

Let the submitters do it. Why? It allows them to remove pointless/ spam comments on their own. Plus if they want to delete your comment. Then let them . That just means they are either not mature enough to handle or you said something rude. Either way THEY READ IT. So it makes no difference to me. But let the members have some power.

Thats my opinion.

Ahh I'm going to die if we can't delete our own layout comments. That would be so inconvenient. :(
And it means we wouldn't even be able to delete the comments we wrote in response, right?

I'm sorry, but I think it would be really unfair and unnecessary to take this privilege away from us...

I understand the concern regarding jocked layouts and how a submitter could delete the comment that called them out, but that's definitely not an issue with official designers.

let the user remove it
it their words.

reasons
1 sometime they are shy and they didn't meant to said it
2 do you want the staff the read every comment to see if it appropriate. Then we need to hire more staff.
3 when you comment the original message but they delete. O well it will get backed to the bottom of the forum list (inactiuve) and with in a day it will not be seen anymore.
4 uncomfortable feeling. Can't delete your message. How can we attract more member. Cb suppose to be fun and interactive.
5 It's not like the percent of message deleted is high. 5%???
6 as for jock layout. THey delete it it ok. DO we want to rub it in. They know their mistake and their content will get criticism. criticism can hurt their feeling. After all they are a cb member. Every member contribute something to the community just by join.
7 dictatorship. give the staff to much power and we the member feel insucure

Thing is though .... it doesn't matter because so far any layout that has been reported has not been found through comments. Plus if we find it through comments the designer needs to PM us about it. If they can't take responsibility and take the mature route by PMing us then its staying anyway. So it doesn't matter if the comments gone. *shrugs*

Exactly. It doesn't matter if some of the comments get deleted.

I don't understand why people want us to lose control over the comments. There are absolutely no major problems with letting us delete them ourselves.

Close to a month ago, I was forced away from the internet for two weeks. I deactivated my messenger, and added an announcement to the top of all of my layout comments saying I couldn't provide help. People still posted, so when I got the brief opportunity to go online, I had to delete their comments to make sure my announcement would stay at the top, so that nobody would get mad at me for not answering their questions. I mean, I put an announcement in the instructions too, but obviously people don't read those too often.

The bottom line is that it would have caused a lot of drama if I hadn't have been able to do that.

And yesterday, I was helping someone, and I told him to PM me his code. But instead of PMing it, he posted it multiple times in the comments, trying to get it to work. My comments were spammed, and the helpful comments weren't visible. I had to delete them.

It's going to be ridiculous if I have to contact a moderator every time I need comments deleted, because I delete comments frequently. And I also have a feeling they won't do it in a very timely manner.

When I have contacted staff in the past with minor questions, my messages got ignored, so surely that means they must be busy. How will they have time to take control of this too?

hey guys,

since the polls arent overwhelmingly one way or the other, im going to leave it the way it is. i guess in the future ill add a 'report' link for submissions that are violating copyrights.
