I have nothing against all of you who really keep up with fashion. I used to keep up with it until things started getting ugly.

I think most of todays fashion pretty much sucks. Shoes must look big and bulky, lots of colors and desgins on clothes are mismacthed, people pay 60 or so dollars for a pair of torn jeans, and the list just goes on. I must be weird, I prefer my shoes to be small and cute. If I want a pair of torn jeans, I'll make them myself. Last of all, I really like the colors or designs on my clothes to match. There's some things that are ok in todays fashion, but I find most of it revolting. I like the clothes and shoes I buy to be cute, small, and matching.

My sisters and some of my friends come to me about clothes opinions. They claim I know what I'm doing when I give them my opinion. But am I really just a weird messed up person who doesn't understand fashion at all or am I just stuck in the middle?

well, are you talking haute couture or regular everyday stuff?

haute couture has some pretty messed up shit. some of the stuff that comes on the runway makes me gag and want to kill the designer.

and i dunno, i haven't noticed everyday fashion going down the drain? there's cute basic tops at stores such as h&m. aldo and nine west have small, cute shoes. paying $60 for a pair of abercrombie ripped jeans is stupid, as is paying $200+ for victoria beckham for rock and republic denim.

i'm not sure what i'm trying to say, haha.

The funny thing is, none of the things you said that are considered "fashion" are fashion at all.

I don't really recall bulky shoes being in, but something that a select amount of people like. Mismatched prints? Once again, just a fad that some people like. Torn jeans? Sure, a lot of people like their jeans destroyed, but that is their opinion.

Fashion isn't something we "keep up with." It's something of ourselves. One magazine article from Vogue does not determine what fashion really is. Today's fashion actually happens to be very broad, IMO.

In fact, haha, what you're saying is what many people say fashion is. Going against the trends. But there really is no possible way to be completely against the trend, since it bounces back & forth.

Fashion or trends?

Fashion is someone's personal style of dress.

Trends are things that become popular for a short amount of time and then slowly begin being taken off the racks.

I think you might be talking about trends.

Like I remember when gauchos were this huge thing; I thought they were the most hideous things I'd ever seen. Same thing with Crocs. I hate those with a passion.

But your fashion is what you make it, so ... fashion can't suck. You don't have to buy ugly clothes. Just buy whatever you want and that's your fashion.

And I love the trends right now. blink.gif

well it depends. you picked a couple of bad examples out of all the fashion trends that have occured recently.

i love that flat, small shoes are in. ballet flats became HUGE recently because it because very in. wedges are kinda coming in now. sometimes they look nice but they big chunky, corky ones are good. romantic touches to girl's clothing has becoming more and more apparent in stores like Forever 21. Actually, I think in terms of fashion, young adults' sense became better. It use to be baggy everything and low tops, etc. Now around me, people are starting to clean up (but some people still don't tuck everything where it's suppose to be). Like polos. Girls are dressing in layers, although the volume trend (huge jackets and blooming dresses) looks funky.

although i HATE HATE HATE the huge sunglasses trend. now all the sunglasses are HUGE bug eyes.

there's always going to bad trends and good trends. the bad trends are always going to be more obvious.

I think someone shows good fashion sense when they know something looks bad and stays away from it, even if it's really popular.

There are horrible things like cowboy hats and Crocs... But if people want to wear it they can. There are also some great ones like ballet flats and empire waists.

But then again fashion is mostly subjective.

I don't really pay attention to the designer stuff. I prefer the every day stuff. Designer stuff just seems to make you want to gag and kill the designer like that person said.

By big bulky shoes I was talking about those stupid Etnees or whatever the hell they are called. I loathe those things. They just looked too huge.

Now as for the designs on clothing... Around here the big style is mixing plaid with stripes, stripes with poka dots, and puting two or more colors together on one piece of clothing that don't match. For example, not too long ago I was in a store and seen quite a few different items of clothing that had both the colors blaze pink and blaze green on them. That is just disgusting. I've also noticed that almost everything has to have pink on it somewhere. I'm sorry, but the color pink does not match everything. Is the pink thing going away or what? I'm tired of going into any store and pink being the main color you see. It's like these people don't know pink isn't the only color. I'd like to see some more purple, red, blue, yellow, orange, and green. Even some brown colors are decent. Idk, maybe my area just gets the crappy looking stuff? Idk...

So I guess I could be talking about trends. But either way, don't they both amount to the same thing?

You mean...
people actually liked Crocs?!

Gauchos were also despicable. They made everyone's figure look like shit, no matter how gorgeous they really were.

Crocs are big here right now still. I've heard they are ugly as hell, but really comfy. So I'm guessing their comfort is popular.

I don't like big shoes either (Etnies, Nikes, Adidas **runsaway><), because they're very unflattering (yes! even to your feet).

Although this is a complaint about bad trends rather than fashion trends in general nowadays, so it's all good :) because some fashion trends going on right now are pretty neat.

Although the whole mismatching thing ... it's a RULE not to wear too much patterns together, and flashy colors all at the same time, so maybe that store you walked into had employees with a bad eye. I don't think people actually mismatch that horribly.

Crocs ... good idea, bad presentation. Who knew they were liked O_o

gauchos eh. TRAPEZES soooo unflattering. (sorry while I'm here might as well rant too :P haha) I'm also not a fan of long skirts ... clothing that are too tight. clothing that are too loose ESPECIALLY men's clothing >< gee, nice dress. ugh I could go on forever

Sadly it wasn't just one store. I've seen a couple stores do the bright, flashy, and mismatched thing. It was rather scary.

I only have one long skirt that I like. It's black, slit up both of the sides, and where the slits stop theres two little strings I can tie in a bow. It's actually cute for a long skirt. Otherwise yeah, long skirts aren't that appealing.

I think we all have our own fashion statements. You look at people who are 5 to 10 years older than you and they all had their own fashion about 20 years ago. Today's fashions are a mix of the best of the sexiest to the most colorful and liberal from 1970's and 1980's. Everything's in it seems.

Fashion really is about expressing yourself. I think some people wear the outrageous clothes they buy to fit in. And lately fitting in is about being unique. It's all a joke, individuality, there's too many people in the world to beat. It's come to the point where clothes are wearing people.

fashion is what you make of it. if you hate today's fashion then hey that's your opinion. no one can make you wear their clothes. we all have our own style and tastes. i can't tell you you're wrong, and you can't tell me i'm wrong.
fashion is about having fun and being yourself. that's the beauty of it! wink.gif
