WELCOME TO THE VEGGIE CLUB!

I thought it was about time to start a food club for the non animal/dairy eaters in the world. _smile.gif

Here's some vocabulary for those of you who are considering or questioning if you're one of the following:

Vegan: A vegetarian who omits all animal products from the diet.

Vegetarian: A person who does not eat or does not believe in eating meat, fish, fowl, or, in some cases, any food derived from animals, as eggs or cheese, but subsists on vegetables, fruits, nuts, grain, etc.

Lacto-ovo-vegetarian: Eats both dairy products and eggs. This is the most common type of vegetarian diet.

Lacto-vegetarian: Eats dairy products but not eggs.

Ovo-vegetarian: Eats eggs but not dairy products.

Fruitarian: A type of vegan diet where very few processed or cooked foods are eaten. Consists mainly of raw fruit, grains and nuts. Fruitarians believe only plant foods that can be harvested without killing the plant should be eaten.

Macrobiotic: A diet followed for spiritual and philosophical reasons. Aims to maintain a balance between foods seen as ying (positive) or yang (negative). The diet progresses through ten levels, becoming increasingly restrictive. Not all levels are vegetarian, though each level gradually eliminates animal products. The highest levels eliminate fruit and vegetables, eventually reaching the level of a brown rice diet.

Raw- Foodists: People who only eat vegetables, fruits, nuts, and seeds that have not been heated over 118 degrees Fahrenheit.

Pescetarian: A vegetarian that consumes seafood as an exception.

---------------------------------

You don't have to be any of the following, you can just support it or even if you're planning on becoming one in time, join!

I'm a pescetarian, vegetarian in training.

I never knew they were called Pescetarians.

They say there's another category above Vegan, where you eat only "raw foods." These are supposed to be foods that are not cooked over 105 degrees. Drink things like almond milk rather than cow milk.

What is a Vegetarian?

A vegetarian is someone living on a diet of grains, pulses, nuts, seeds, vegetables and fruits with or without the use of dairy products and eggs (preferably free-range). A vegetarian does not eat any meat, poultry, game, fish, shellfish or crustacea, or slaughter by-products such as gelatine or animal fats.

Types of Vegtarians:

Lacto-ovo-vegetarian: Eats both dairy products and eggs. This is the most common type of vegetarian diet.

Lacto-vegetarian: Eats dairy products but not eggs.

Ovo-vegetarian: Eats eggs but not dairy products.

Vegan: Does not eat dairy products, eggs, or any other animal product.

Fruitarian: A type of vegan diet where very few processed or cooked foods are eaten. Consists mainly of raw fruit, grains and nuts. Fruitarians believe only plant foods that can be harvested without killing the plant should be eaten.

I was a vegetarian for about 2 years and now I'm a vegan. Its not that hard either, just get soymilk and soycheeses and stuff. As for eggs, tofu is a great substitute.

And for 6 months I'm not eating any preservatives and nothing processed. So, no bread, no rice no nothing but vegetables, fruit legumes.

i wanna go vegan! or raw-foodist even..
tofu and soy = happy me. + vegetablesss
i work at a barbeque restaurant though :| i'm quitting soon, but am still going to be working at a restaurant.

i'm still lacto-ovo-pesc.
i can't stand looking at meat. when i do, all i can see is a dead animal's body and it really grosses me out. and then my imagination gets carried away easily and then it's kinda like.. i see dead people.

i've been a vegetarian since i was 7. that's 18 years right there.
whew. it was tough growing up. my mom was pretty understanding, but my dad who's a complete carnivore and his wife gave me problems.

i stuck it through.

been vegan for going on a year now, and when i decided to have that lifestyle, i got a lot of flack from a lot of people...

but i'll tell you this...

i've never felt healthier.

---------
also, quickly, let me add this...

for those out there that are SERIOUS about being Veg*n (vegetarian/vegan) be sure to read the labels on all the foods you buy.

1) lots of soups contain beef/chicken stock or chicken fat or lard
2) red dye #40 - which is used in the creation of lots of sodas, candies, or even simply food that's dyed red is not vegetarian. it's made from a beetle (gross, huh?)
3) anything with gelatin (marshmallows, poptart icing, certain frostings, gummy stuff etc) is not vegetarian

a couple of good sites are
http://www.goveg.com
http://www.ivu.org/faq/

Has anyone ever eaten at an all vegan restuarant? It was expensive but the pasta was gewd.

Your goveg.com link doesn't work sad.gif

I read that write before I even decided to be vegetarian. I think its a long shot for me to make a difference but its still nice to know i'm not the whole blame xD

Wow it was expensive? We have vegan buffets about a hour or so away from my town, they were so good! and it wasn't that much at all although it could be where you live if your on the west coast?

Wow, good to know we're not adding to the cause. sad.gif Yeah, the bill came out to be like 50 bucks. I didn't really expect it to be that much but I guess it was because we were in manhattan.

For restaurants, I love going to pizza places. Especially California Pizza Kitchen because there is so much variety.

Hey everyone! I havent posted anything here yet, but I'm vegetarian for about 3/4 years now...

BUT.

I just puked,
because... My mom made macaroni, and she used a species-mix with MEAT in it... I tasted it and i looked at the pack immediatly.. and it did have meat in it... And now I feel so sad and noxious =(

^ Haha, I smiled when I saw this show up.

Unfortunately, my parents found out about my pescetarianism and offered to strike a deal. That I would continue to eat meat until I have reached the full age of 18. So until then. sad.gif I'm sorry, my animal friends!

Thanksgiving coming up, y'all. Are you families sensitive to your dietary requirements? My parents were real cool last year, most of the vegetables they made were made sans-meat seasoning and they bought me a Tofurkey loaf + gravy. It was tasty.
