So I watched Cavite (which is the name of a rural city in the Philippines) yesterday, and it was about this guy whose mother and sister was kidnapped by terrorists. He had to follow the instructions of a terrorist who communicated with him via a cell phone and headset, or else the terrorists would kill them.

So the movie goes, and eventually the protagonist will be instructed to plant a bomb in a church, knowing that it will kill several people. Failing to do so would result in the death of his family.

So my question to you is, if you were in his position, would you cooperate with the terrorist and plant the bomb to keep your family members alive? Or would you refuse to kill so many innocent people and risk the lives of your family?

You know, some people say that it'd be quite selfish to kill so many civilians for only a few of your family members, while others say family first.

On a lighter note, do you follow the philosophy of "family first" and put your family as your highest priority?

By the way, Cavite is a pretty good independent film.

In matters where my family is concerned, yes I put my family first.

But in a situation like that, where you know that those innocent people are "family first" to other individuals, it would be a hard choice to make. If I could, I would try to save both.

If I had to make a choice though..? Wow, I'm not sure really. ermm.gif

What did he end up doing in the movie?

Tough choice but I would pick my family first. Unless my family was on their deathbeds and there were a large number of people in the church.

I hate to say this but I would always put my family first before anything, even if it means blowing up a church because I know they would do the same for me.

That's the thing, I'm wondering if my family would tell me to choose the larger amount of people. (I'm assuming "several" means more than say..four family members?)

I don't know, I wouldn't want to have anyone die either way.. But, yeah thinking about it, I would choose family first. Because after going through an ordeal like that, I'd definitely need my family by my side.

Cool, I get to use that spoilers feature for the first time.

You could tell he was really pressured, and he almost stayed in the church with the bomb, but the terrorist eventually talked Adam (the main character) to leave the church and retrieve his family. (And he really did get his family back.)

Oh Steve, we're talking about a huge church. Like those sort of churches you go to foreign countries to go see.

The character's situation in the movie was his sister and his mother for maybe a little under a thousand people.

2 people for a thousand, I would not. My family would understand. It would kill me to not blow up the church, but I couldn't kill that many for two.
