i was looking around for malls in the detroit area to visit my friend and there aren't Lane Bryant's around in some of them. i can understand not having Torrid but Lane Bryant is a staple for me!
the thing that REALLY pissed me off was this store. 579. 579 is a national retail apparel chain operating in the continental united states and puerto rico, carrying trendy junior clothing featuring sizes 00 thru 9 WTF! it's bad enough i feel fat! the only store i don't feel fat in is target because the 2xls are too big for me! EVEN AMERICAN EAGLE GOES UP TO SIZE 18 ONLINE! sorry for people who shop there, but i think this store is lame, and is affecting anyone above the size of 9 who has heard of it. this is how we get lindsay lohan skinny and it's.... GRR! u heard mine, express your view. |

The only reason people feel offended by it is because they let it.
So what they only go up to size 9. Pampers easy ups are only toddler size, should we get mad at them because they make us feel like were to big to shit ourselves? No, and this store shouldn't make you feel bad just because you aren't as skinny as other people, accept the fact that they carry small sizes. Big Dogs only stocks the upper clothing sizes, but that shouldn't make small people feel bad about not being tall enough to fit into one of there t-shirts. In few words, get over it, don't let it affect you. |

I'm a 32, no worries there ;)
Course it IS a guy size.. *shrug* Don't get mad @ the store for not offering your size, just don't shop there. Simple as that. Go to somewhere that DOES offer your size. I have a size 14 shoe, and it's a pain in the ass to find a good shoe that size. Adidas just stopped making the shoe I've been wearing for the past 6 years in size 14, but they'll go up to size 13.5. It's a money issue most likely, as most of their customer base is probly size 00-9. |

my things isn't with skinny people. its that more chains need to have more sizes. there are so many stores i would like to shop at but can't. even having larger sizes online makes it better.

Chains don't bring out more sizes because they don't turn a profit off them. They do everything for a reason, not because they hate fat people. There are specific stores aimed at fat people, and they make money from who else but fat people.

Um.. Express Design Studio carries their pants in size 12, and their sizes usually run a little too big.
Although it is hard to find sizes 12+ -- or in your case, 10+ -- They don't carry size 00 in a lot of places either. Also, some stores only care SOME larger sizes, and usually they are all sold to customers who fit the size, and mainly stock up on the sizes 0-9 since many of their consumers would fit that size. |

Well the store is called 579; I always assumed it's because those are the main sizes they provide.
And honestly, with stores like that that only sell things up to a certain size; they probably don't sell tihngs that are flattering for bigger sizes anyway. |

Personally I feel it is just degrading to women who aren't model material. It isn't even like they are heavier women considering that sizes just after size nine isn't a heavy woman, or even close. Double digit sizes do not mean the person is heavy set. I think awhile back I heard something about how they were going to end the deathly thin models era because it was unhealthy and too many girls were trying to emulate the model body... Something about wanting to see a more natural healthy beautiful body. I'm sure that won't actually take effect for quite some time though because society is still hung up on the perfect bod, which is complete bull, in my opinion. The only perfect bod is the body you are satisfied with, which is what I go by, since I work at a gym.

I don't blame it all on the media. Everything the media does is for a reason. Money.
If they can't sell their magazines with plus size individuals on the pages, because our SOCIETY thinks that it's not as attractive as thinner people, then that's what they have to do in order to make a profit. People always like to assume that the media is what influences us, but have you ever though about US influencing the MEDIA? Just saying. |

I think that its stupid that they don't carry larger sizes because everyone doesn't have the body of a model and everyone isn't anorexic either. So there. I think it's dumb.

There's different stores for everyone.. so, what if they don't have your size.. go to another store. There are girls who need those stores because they're so skinny, and it's not their choice.. like one of my bestfriend is a size 00, but she eats more than I can... don't be mad at the store... just shrug it off, know you're beautiful just how you are and go shop somewhere else

The shops don't do it to torment everybody, they do it to gain a profit in money; carrying a lot of sizes that only a few people will buy = losing money. ![]() So 579 isn't your store... go find another one that stocks your size. ![]() |

Woah, thats terrible. I think Pacsun only goes up to a size 12?
Stores like that should at least go up to a size 16. Going into a store, finding something you like, and realizing that they dont even make your size is really depressing. It makes you want to go puke up the McDonalds you just ate. And cry. I used to be a size 14-16, and that's how I always felt. QUOTE The only reason people feel offended by it is because they let it. So what they only go up to size 9. Pampers easy ups are only toddler size, should we get mad at them because they make us feel like were to big to shit ourselves? In few words, get over it, don't let it affect you. Okay... how would you feel if you were so large that you needed to shop somewhere like Lane Bryant? I never got that heavy, but I came close. Could you imagine being a heavy teenage girl, and wanting to wear trendy things from stores like Abercrombie and Pacsun, but not being able to? Plus sized stores dont really carry that kind of stuff. Everything I've ever seen in a plus sized store is geared more towards adults. Stores like 579 and others should at least have SOME larger sizes. They could at least carry a couple of things, like jeans, in larger sizes. Or even have them availible online. |

Abercrombie is meant for skinny people (I didn't say that, the person who owns the company did). 2. If being fat makes someone feel bad, then there's a little thing called WORKING OUT & doing your body some good ![]() |

There are always two sides to every story. I can understand how frustrating it would be if a store didn't even carry your size. But, half of the time, when I want to get something, the store doesn't have something small enough. [My boyfriend says that's becasue all girls squeeze into small sizes, so they feel good, but whatev.]
The point is, if a store doesn't carry your size, there isn't much you can do. Go to another store. Everyone has to deal with it. |

579 is targeted towards skinny people the way there are stores who focus on people with larger sizes.
I have a friend who varies between a 00 and a 0. And it's so hard for her to find a pair of good fitting jeans. This is why she needs stores like 579. Abercrombie sizes run big. Normally, I'm a size 4-6, but I can fit into an Abercrombie size 2. You wanna see what really makes people feel fat? Come to Asia. I'm considered fat in Asia. Everyone else around me is stick-thin, and here in Hong Kong, I have to buy Ls or even XLs for pants in some stores. But in the U.S., I wear a size small in pants. |

Honestly, if someone is overweight due to their poor eating habits and stuff, shame on them. They deserve to walk around naked.
And, yes, I agree with what Steven said. The stores target a group of people. If it is most profitable to sell to normal people size, 00-9 (which is healthy and regular, I believe), then that's going to make them the most money. |

^ That's pretty much what I think, minus the walking around naked thing. O.O
And I am not saying this is your case, because I don't even know you, but there are some overweight people who are overweight because they're lazy. If they sit around all day eating and not exercising, they can't expect the rest of the world to cater to them. Not being able to shop everywhere is a consequence of their laziness. Granted, some people are big boned, but if someone weighs 600 pounds, they can't blame that on their bones, and they can't complain that they can't find clothes. It's their fault. That said, I DO think that there should be more stores specifically for plus-sized teens, like Torrid. Because the "normal" stores will never offer a good selection of larger sizes. |

^ That's a little cruel, dont ya think? Yeah, if someone gets to the point where they're 300 pounds or something - then that's definitely their own fault. But girls who are just overweight, not so much. Alot of girls who are overweight arent any more lazy than a normal sized girl. Alot of times they have something going on that gives them a low metabolism. That was my problem - I found out that my thyroid was all out of whack. I've been trying diets for years, but it wasnt till I was able to treat my thyroid problem that I finally lost weight. And alot of girls are thin because they have a really high metabolism - not because they're just less lazy.

I was just joking about potato sacks. ;K But, yeah, my mom also had thyroid problems, and she used to be chubby until she got meds. I think girls that are a little overweight can fit into regular sized clothes. Most normal stores do offer a wide range of sizes. I think it's fair to say that there is an equal amount of girls who also work out to keep their good figures. |
