So, I've been wondering. . .how many of you guys could handle having a gay best friend? Feel free to post as to why or why not that situation would work for you.

I would be totally comfortable with it myself. I already have many gay friends and they're all cool people. They understand the difference between us being friends and us being something more. If they were to develop feelings for me, they know they'd be able to say something and I'd be ok with it and we could work it out.

I'm a girl, and one of my close was bisexual. I was completely fine with it. I think that having someone so close to me be bi opened my mind to homosexuality.

Yeah, aint nothing wrong with that. Found out one of my best friends used to be bisexual with a tendency to go for the guy side, though he's since changed his orientation towards women.

There aren't really any actions that can be deemed homosexual. We have our stereotypical image of how a gay person should act, but that's not always the case.

I think I have more straight guys who do stereotypical gay tendencies more then the 2 actual gay guys I'm friends with. It makes me wonder about my straight friends who do that. I wouldn't really mind if I had my 2 gay friends interested in me. Aslong as they knew I was straight and they don't do anything I'm uncomfortable with.

Well my best friend is a guy..if he turned gay right now, I wouldn't stop being friends with him. Unless he changed who he was. Not just his sexual preference..

Yeah I agree..but one thing bothers me is that some people I have came across always makesure that other's know they are gay/lesbian/bi.. and it is a huge let down cause they're not distiguishing their personality but instead their sexuality towards random people... I dunno if that makes sense? _unsure.gif

The sexuality of my friends doesn't really affect how close i become to them. However, I do understand how it would be awkward if my best friend was gay and liked me, or if my best friend was a girl and she had began to develop different types of emotions for me.

Well I wouldn't have a problem with it. Most of my friends already have a suspicion cuz of my effeminate tendencies, but i dont think they'd really care if I was until I just randomly made advances on them. But frankly, I wouldn't care: I have several friends who are open lesbians/bis.

im a girl. if i had a gay guy best friend i would love it =] im not quite sure about a gay girl best friend. i know i could deal with it but it would be awkward.
how many people would say no cuz of religon? i know my friend would. when i ask her, she says something about her religon and just sshrugs it off. she says its WRONG. and then i stare at her in awe and wonder how it could be wrong. i understand you want to follow your religon, but dont let it be a barrier between what your (in a way) forced to believe and what you believe that does nbot involve religon. infact, i think religon is just an excuse for some people to say what they really mean.

gay guys are cool.

and they arn't like

girls. they might think

your cute, but if they

know your straight they

won't try to get with you.

girls are different, at least

to me. they try to break me

and my girlfriend up, and they

try to be so skanky, it pisses

me off cause they try way to hard.

yeah gay guys know what looks good

and they are great to shop with.

they also know when girls are atractive

or not. just becuase they are gay

doesn't mean that they can't see

a cute/attractive girl, now they

don't call them hott cause, well to

the guy that i am talking about, he

just can't say that becuase he doesn't

see girls as hott.

Well, I have a best friend who I've known for 9 years. A year or 2 ago, I found out that he was Bi. But he seems to be more into guys. I'm okay with that and he's my best friend for so long.

I think it's just dumb to break a friendship just because someone is gay or whatever. I wouldn't do it, espicially I knew him for a very long time & it's shallow.

However, I do wonder that I have straight friends and they act like homo's at times then my bi best friend. lol. I love my best friend (not in a homo way) and he's really cool to kick it with for the past 9 years & continuing.

Shit, I'm gay and I have more friends than I could possibly imagine. tongue.gif

Though, honestly, I feel uncomfortable hanging out with straight guys because sometimes they're just idiots and I want to punch them in their effing faces.

Let me address some myths:

1) I WILL NOT HIT ON YOU. Okay, first of all, you're probably too ugly. Secondly, you probably have a brain of a fly. Finally, I hit on guys who like other guys thank you very much. stubborn.gif

2) Not all gay guys are flamboyant fruit cakes. Some act as normal as straight guys if not "straighter" to prove that they're not pussies.

3) I don't get why straight guys think that they have to work so hard to talk to us. Seriously, you can talk about girls to me. Although I would never bang a girl, I can still say if they're ugly as shit or not, etc. etc.

4) Homophobes, go suck a goat. biggrin.gif

That's all I can think of right now. Kthxbi.

PS: And what the f**k?

What's with gay guys hitting on straight guys these days?

LOL. Okayyy Thomas. I have handled having gay friends. Its nothing new. Some of my best friends are. And Mini is right, alot of people should throw away their stereotypical ideas that all gays are fruitcaked trannys. Its not true at all. Most of the gays I know act, look, talk, and react the same as straight boys.

I agree with Mini (I'm not gay, but everything else).

I hate how people act as if gay people are a species and not actual people. Just because they're gay doesn't mean that they like you. It makes no sense at all to me when people think that.

So yes, I could handle a gay best friend. Afterall, they'd be my best friend, so what would it matter if they were gay?

I'm pretty sure that the majority of those who are saying 'yes' can't handle it finally. My friends are like that too ... 'oh, I could so handle it, it's just their orientation' but when they come accross homosexuals, they're like 'eww, nasty people'.

Being that I'm bisexual, it isn't a problem, plus my brother is gay.

Haha. You're selfish!

But no, the reason no one does that to me is because I'm really mean towards a lot of people (not cruelly but jokingly). So most of them are too intimidated unless they genuinely like me.

Obviously people would know better seeing how most parents are ultra traditional and conservative.

It shouldn't be a problem. They are the same person, and you wouldn't be much of a friend if you stopped liking them for that reason.

I wouldn't have a problem with it.

I'd be fine with it.

Just because someone is gay, it doesn't mean that they're going to hit on me.

And if they do, just tell them you don't swing that way.

But people seem to think that just because someone is gay and you're a guy, that said gay person is immediately going to lust after you like a fly on some very seductive manure. (Futurama FTW)

So I'd have no problem with it. It wouldn't be fair to reject them, it's not their 'fault' that they're gay.

yeah. i have a lot of gay relatives, so i find it's not a big deal. i mean, unless the person tried anything on me. i wouldn't mind if a guy had a crush on me, thats flattering but still pretty weird, but if he tried anything, i'd be pretty freaked out.

Assumedly, if you were best friends with a person in the first place, you must have had things in common. Just because someone comes out it doesn't mean that goes away. Why should that change? What is there to handle?

It wouldnt alter our friendship or anything like that.

_smile.gif id probably go to the extent of poking fun at it. i loove it. XD.gif

Nope... cuz I'm ignorant and hateful like that. Though I'll admit I do have a couple female friends that are lesbians which are married with a 12 year old boy.

They're cool people, but they take everything so personal when it comes to opinions on gays. Hell even if one of us say, "that is so GAY!" one of them... at least one of them has to say something and ruin our fun =\

Damn gays... you're no fun!

Nothin happens in the locker room. It's where people change in and out of clothes. And back when I was in highschool, non of the guys took showers in the locker room, we were all strongly homophobic and we'll still be :P

I have decided that after all of this, I couldn't handle having a queen for a best friend. I mean if somebody is gay, then it is cool you know....to each his own. HOWEVA (Screaming A Voice), I couldn't handle having one of the queens around. Leave that shit at home playboy.

and a lot of my friends are lesbians. they're wonderful and sexuality does not define friendship

Whats with all the "nothing against gays, but they might fancy me!" type posts? I'm sure you guys have plenty of girls who manage to stay friends with you without being deeply madly attracted to you.

Being gay doesn't mean that they will fancy man on the planet, so stop flattering yourself lads tongue.gif

i would love a gay best friend. haha. whenever i talk to this one gay friend, he always makes me laugh because of the way he criticize people. and its awesome because we can talk about the same stuff too, like make-up and clothes. i find them awesome and super nice.. when you get to know them and they're not stuck-up. laugh.gif

especially when my guy friends act gay with each other, no homo though. lol. i'm pretty used to having crazy friends. a gay best friend would definitely make my friends something special, haha. but whether they're gay or not, it shouldn't affect a friendship. i've actually known this certain friend of mine when he was in denial about being gay, like in middle school. now he's fabulous. wink.gif
