So i have a device that does not except wireless connection to the internet.(only wired ethernet) So in order to obtain wireless internet i need to buy a wireless router and a bridge to pick it up, the only problem is thats quite costly. Also a potentioly hard time setting up. So i did some research and found Power Over Ethernet(POE) and it seems as if its used to prevent fires and whatnot, but i read that it can transfer data as well. So what i was wondering is if i could plug one POE to my device through a cable and another to my PC could i obtain wirless internet? not at the same time as my pc no, but it seems like it would work and would save me loads of cash.

anyone know if this is possible? _unsure.gif

I don't really think that would work for you.
Honestly the router is the best choice for you in my opinion. You can get a wired router, and those are cheaper but you'd either have to run a wire through your walls or have it out in the open. You could also just get a wireless bridge, then buy a wireless card and stick that inside your computer. The wireless card is way cheaper than the bridge.

Yeah, if you're going to do anything, get the wireless router. It seems like the POE wouldnt give you fast enough of a connection. I set up a wireless router and hooked three different computers up to it over Christmas break. It's not that difficult to hook everything up to your main computer, but it's hell trying to connect your other computers to it. It's definitely worth the time and the money though. _smile.gif

Yeah it sounds like your only issue would be money. If you were to get the WRT54G Linksys Wireless Router, I could walk you through the set up. I do it all the time. I can help you set up a WEP key to password it and stop neighbors/others from stealing your internet.

Like everyone said, routers are the best option, and they're also the more common option, so it really shouldn't be so hard to use. Routers aren't that expensive, IMO, if you know what you are looking for. But I don't know what your budgeting range is so I can't exactly prove so.

oh okay well thanks for the responses.

yeah im not exactly loaded so a 50 dollar router plus a bridge will take some time to obtain.

you said something about a wireless card and a bridge, would that be cheaper possibly?

bridges are expensive. 100+ each.
