So, I just ordered a laptop at Costco.com because I need it more than ever now for college. It's kinda late for me to get one but I need it when my stupid sister is hogging the home comp. for Myspace..but anyways...I NEVER OWNED a laptop before so clear some questions for me:

1) The thing I hate about laptops are the mousepad crap on the computer, could I just hook up one of my spare mouse I have from my home computer to use on the laptop?

2)So, I have SBC Yahoo DSL for our home computer..when I get my laptop..do I have to buy extra phone line to hook up to mine...or what's the deal w/ it? I have used a laptop before, it was my step-mom's but I just hook up the phone line to the back of the laptop but I'm wondering how do I do it if my sister is on the internet on the home comp. and I WANT to get on it too on my laptop...is that possible?

Thank you to those reply back w/ great advice-no critism!

Laptops! _smile.gif

1) Yes, you can just buy a mouse and hook it up into your laptop's external device. I have one of those, i hate the fingerpad too.
2) Phone lines are optional. Laptops = wireless! So your laptop should have wireless enabled. Which means you'd have to purchase a router (check out Best Buy or something) and you can hook that up with your DSL and access internet wirelessly. You can still use phone lines; on laptops, there's a port for that too. But if you can put your laptop anywhere in your house and access internet from there, why not?

You could get a router and connect wirelessly to the internet.
I'd recommend Linksys or Belkin.

Yeah nowadays you can buy something you plug into a USB port that enables a wireless mouse/keyboard on your laptop. I use this when I'm doing more complex things other than just typing away.

WRT54G - Linksys Router. It's a very common router out there, which I personally use. It's easy to set up, easy to use. You can put a pw on the acct to stop other people from using your wireless too.

Oh man, I did that once when my wireless was acting up. Free internet ftw.
