Createblog sucks now. But of course, that's just my opinion. Why don't I just leave? Because I don't feel like it, ho. It still sucks, and I'll tell you why, later.

What do you think is the reason that not as many people come on here anymore?

because the topics are boring now, and conversation doesn't stimulate the brain at all.

not to mention that most of the members back them have all left cB.

Competing sites? More Americans are going outside (and exercising to fight fatness)? People are getting lives?

I agree.

I think those who have gone, and those who have come have something to do with it.

Maybe. And we're getting a bunch of people in here who don't have lives?

And why has it gotten so boring?

I think the atmosphere is way different.

I blame it fully on the moderators.

I don't think its that. I think plenty of the people on here have lives and thats why we have our slow days. Maybe the site just doesn't look to appealing right now and so it doesn't bring to many people in. But thats what the new version is for.

Gah, I hope it'll be here soon. (cB4)

Eh, it's already been said but the topics suck. There isn't enough thought most of the time IMO. Or maybe some people just can't think. shrug.gif

Psh, you can have a life and be on here too.. Example? Elba. And many others of course.

I do believe createblog would be a better place if the mods weren't so uptight and anal about everything.

That's why I blame it on the mods.

I think some people would respect them more if they would just loosen up.

Back in the day, everyone was on the same level.

Now, the mods act like they're way up there and we're supposed to be way down there *points*

This place is going to shit and the mods are making it worse.

^Elba, I have to agree 100% well for most of the mods anyway. I know they don't like to hear it and hold it against the people that do say theres something wrong with the mods or its all their fault but most of them really are uptight and everyone almost feels like they can't do anything around here.

-shrugs-

I just don't care anymore what they do at this point. I'm sure they'll loosen up eventually.

By the looks of it, that stick just keeps going farther and farther up their asses.

I don't see them loosening up anytime soon. If anything, they believe they're doing just fine.

I think it's also because a lot of the more lenient mods back then have stepped down, and the newer batch of mods stick by the handbook too much.

Yea, also I just get this feeling like they think their better than everyone else just because they have some modding abilities on an online forum. I like it when everyone is just treated equal and things are eye to eye with everyone.

^Thing about the new mods, I almost felt like they didn't really give them enough time to really get the hang of the community and show that they were really good members and their just hiring all these people and just to see how it goes or pick someones user name out of hat to fill the spot.

Not to mention that I was rather shocked when a few current mods were modded without going through the modding process. Sure, they may have been the top choices, but I feel that it was unfair to the rest of the community as they weren't given chances.

Well I was put on staff that way, but of course I would have been fine going through the modding process. But I was just PM-ed and asked to be on myspace staff, but I was only active in myspace so perhaps thats why. Oh and the hiring process isn't always so promising. There has been some mods that were hired that way and I think sometimes it was a waste of time because some of them just lied in their applications and sucked up for the little time the hiring process was going on and ta-da they were on staff!

It's different when you get modded for like myspace staff, at least you have talent.

If you're going to be people staff, I would assume that the community would like you. How are they going to like you if you're a stupid, self-absored nazi.

^x2 yeah, because it was my senior year of highschool and I had 8 AP/IB exams, graduation and that I was moving right after graduation and therefore wasn't on much, they gave me the option of either me stepping down because I was busy, or them demoting me for inactivity.

Because most of the hilarious people are gone like

Yula, Steven , and the others just don't post as much as they use to.

Most of the people I kicked it with are all gone.

Me personally I prefer NikeTalk over CB because its big on Hip Hop , Sports, and a few other stuff, but its not dial up friendly, otherwise I would be posting there. sad.gif

We can't possibly get suspended for making a topic like this. At least I would hope not.

And with so many people agreeing to the mods need to be lenient would you all think they would take it as some criticism and need to work on it.

Jusun wants you all on staff but he wants you all to have fun most importantly. This isn't a job, your not getting paid and you don't get any benefits if you start taking this site to seriously you may just ruin yourself and the site along with it.

To respond to the earlier question, it's the end of the school year. CB is never that busy right now. Once summer rolls around, the mad rush will come in; it happens every single year. Activity drops a ton during school.

And don't say anything about mods not warning you for this topic or something after this post; I'm a Mentor, I can't do crap.

I agree with you somewhat, James, it is a two way street. However, why do you think uptight folks get made fun of all the time? Also, why are tyrants despised. Why is it, that there were members baiting moderators in the past as well, but cB was still awesome? This isn't the first time members went against mods, surely. Most of us know know this.

A moderator's job should be to arbitrate, promote discussion, and to fix the technical kinks if he/she can. Yes, uphold the guidelines, but use discretion to punish/reward.

Now onto my critique guidelines...I seriously think the "Controversy", and "Pointless Posts" sections need to be revised, especially if moderators are going to enforce them strictly by the book.

Controversy: Avoiding topics that can stir up controversy isn't realistic and it gravely limits the level of intellectual discussion that could arise from controversy. Controversy should not be avoided, but rather encouraged, and it should be kept only within the boundaries of civility and rationality. If one disagrees or is offended by another's rational, civil opinion, one can oppose it in the same manner.

Pointless posts: "Anything [ir]relevant (not unrelevant) to the topic at hand" is considered pointless? This is something moderators should really use their discretion on, not enforce this rule as is. Many times topics go off tangent for good reasons! I made friends and learned many things from going off topic. I remember debating along side with Eric, Mr. Acid, and Minda (ComradRed) about Hell, and next thing we know, we were talking about getting a piece of the Virgin Islands from Minda. That day, I learned knowledge, maturity, and stubborness are not dependent with age.

And for example, just because the topic title says "complain about Bush", doesn't mean I can't argue that point and praise Bush instead (in the same topic). If that's the case, the SCREW the mod that doesn't understand how to preside over a good discussion.

Yea, maybe thats it. But still I think when new people are modded they should pick someone to be their "mentor" and they teach them the ropes and if they have any questions then they can always go to them for help. I remember they use to do that a while back for the new staff but I suppose not anymore. And not to be rude but the mentors now don't seem like they really would want to do something like that. Sammi has said in the past that she doesn't really do anything as a mentor. I can see why too, its just a position that you get when you want to quit createblog but your still held by a thread that you get to look backstage with and you can put in your 2 cents. But of course the mentors aren't exactly the most active bunch.

Although if I'm not mistaken in the moderator guidelines I'm pretty positive it does say something along the lines of being lenient and making your best judgment. Also to be a lot more lenient in the lounge then other places around the site.

Anarchists are mocked a lot too, you know.

tongue.gif

The thing is about the written rules is that if we DO revise them too much or make them too ambiguous, we get a problem, as with the past leniency rule. If we make them too rigid, it either comes off as Nazi-ish, or else just plain tedious to match off each potentially problematic post against a long list of criteria

I don't think ANYONE has closed a topic where the discussion merely 'branched,' in the way you're talking about, nor would they. The problems we've dealt with recently have revolved around people posting 'offensive' remarks.

Dammit, work, more later, promise

P.S. Just because I don't post in every topic ever doesn't mean I don't check up on the topics I care about and can give advice on every single day. If anyone asks me a question, I'll answer it. Besides, Holly, what you're referring to, with the mentoring mods and such; when that was in place, other mods were mentors to the new mods. I'm not sure if there's enough mentors in order to use us. There's just me and Carrie, yeah? I mean, I'm not opposed to it; if anyone wants me to "train" new mods, I will. I don't think anyone cares...the function of a mentor is not to mentor new mods, it's to offer guidance to the entire staff in general, which I do.

I don't think anyone cares...the function of a mentor is not to mentor new mods, it's to offer guidance to the entire staff in general, which I do.

but yes, i dont come on as much because....cb lost something, that twinkle in its eye turned into a mod bitch slapping you at every turn.
except you suzzette, your okay. but the others....

and its not cause cb4 is'nt here. thats not gonna magically make me come on more.
just gonna make me more confused.

Nah, I was talking about the people that had better things to do.

So you mean CB has turned to shit thanks to the staff, so other things are more worth doing that coming here? Alright, gotcha.

Also, I remember coming to createblog for the first time almost a year ago on another account. The community was really friendly, and warm. In my opinion, cB has turned into a robot that runs on rules.

Personally, I think part of it is that over the years there have been so many topics made that it's almost as if there's no such thing as a "new" topic. So many topics are created even though there was the same topic created a year ago, or a month ago. Maybe it is just that the older members aren't seeing any real new/original topics like they have in the past.

Or not, I don't know.

Hey morons.

Why do you insist on saying "we beat the old record!" all the time? You didn't beat shit. The overwhelming majority of people online were guests. There were like 50 actual members there.

This has been a reality check, courtesy of kryogenix. f**k you.

because the topics are boring now, and conversation doesn't stimulate the brain at all.

not to mention that most of the members back them have all left cB.
