haha that would scare me. i agree with other people though. write stuff about them and see what happens, but really, why would a teacher care, I had a teacher once who got in a fight with one of my friends, and then called my house to get me to call them 3-way calling so she could listen in on our conversation.

That reminds me of when I was in high school.... a group of asian kids got picked on by a few black kids after school. They all wrote xanga entries about it... used racial slurs that are probably not the most appropriate... and the next day, copies of the entry were posted all over school. All the asians got suspended mellow.gif

man thats soo bizarre. i would've never thought that teachers/principals would take the time and read students pages. whether it be a xanga page or any other.

i thought that until my friend who still attends my old high sku had to close her xanga page. the principal called her into his office and warned that she might get suspended/exspelled for some of the things that he read. when she told me that i was like WTF. he even takes the time to find out the persons IP address. its such a bad situation.

i think it is ok iph the student thinks that the teacher is allowed to enter in their private life....

PS-- it is freaky to have principals and teachers reading your blogs...
wat happens iph you said something bad about them? wink.gif

One of my old teachers did that.. She told the class about it though, and said she wouldn't talk to the students about the content of the xangas.. hah. I'm not sure if she ever read mine though.

Oh, but my current Bio teacher went to my domain once & signed my guestbook. It's pretty creepy to think that he knows so much about me now.

My signature for my e-mails used to have my Xanga URL. And one day I needed help on my history and science project, so I e-mailed my teachers. I forgot to take the URL so they both know it, but I'm not sure if they actually read my Xanga or not. I don't really find it that creepy though... Just kind of odd. But now I have to think twice before defaming any of my teachers or fellow peers in my Xanga. _unsure.gif

well... posts like that are kinda against xanga TOS, but noone pays attention to that. i dunt think it's right for them to get suspended though since xangas are personal blogs and it doesn't relate to school. imagine having someone read your personal journal and get you in trouble for expressing how you feel [of course, it'd be nice if we could express ourselves w/o profanities.... the english language has more than enough vocab to express how we feel...]

Kids at our school got into major trouble for creating a myspace for one teacher. Stupid administration.

One of my computer teachers said that she used to go surfing for her students and see what all they're posting on their myspace. Then, when she found out that stupid girls were posting naked pictures and phone numbers and such, we had a nice long discussion about internet safety. Joy.

Ah yes, internet safety. One of the school councilors came into class and asked who had a myspace. Pretty much everyone raised their hands except for two kids who you'd expect wouldn't have a myspace.

And then came a nice long lecture about internet safety.

And they always blame it on myspace! There are other places where kids are being eViolated. Chatrooms, internet games, Xanga, bunches of other places.

People just dont have any common sense. Which is pathetic.

^ I agree. It's not exactly Xanga, Myspace, or the game that's causing a child to be raped, etc. It's usually the person's lack of common sense.

^ No joke!

Our school sent a letter to our parents warning them and cautioning them against Myspace.. always MYSPACE. So they went through the internet safety stuff, and after getting our parents alarmed beyond reason, they told them how to find their children's myspaces. Funny thing was, with the steps they provided, you could find them. Haha.. I laughed at that one.

Everyone likes to pick on Myspace since it seems to be the most well known cause of stalking and such.

And there a lot of kids out there under 14 who have a Myspace. Really, the allowed age is 14, so I guess that's a mistake on the kid's part. They end up talking to strangers and you probably know what happends next.

I guess teaching internet safety is good, but there's probably a better way of teaching it, rather than just telling people to avoid Myspace.

Myspace is bad. Don't touch Myspace. Myspace will get you pregnant. Myspace will kill you.

Everyone likes myspace because no one likes to make theirs private. My myspace isn't private. But then again it also says I'm from Ireland and that i'm 1 cm tall, so, go figure. My dad "cleared" my myspace. My mom still hates it that I have one. That woman is crazy.

People need to open there eyes. There is a big thing out there called the internet where even more stalkers lurk around. Not just myspace.

OH MY GOD FINE. I'll get off my soapbox now.

My teachers have had xangas and myspaces, and add us and things. The teachers weren't creepy, they were just really good teachers that all the students liked and got along with. No big deal.

our computer science teacher at our school made xanga.
and his first post was about internet safety.

then at the end of the year my school had a meeting
that parents could go to.. and the flyer said
"summer is coming soon, kids will be bored if their not at camp.
we're having a discussion on how to enforce rules on:
myspace
chatrooms etc."

i thought that was pretty, effing hallarious.

My mom's a teacher.. she and some of her colleagues have myspace. you can't really say it's weird when the people who created this stuff are their age. I mean look at tom.

in any case, as much as you don't want to believe it the internet is a form of public. that the teacher saw their xanga was probably invited. i mean, it's not like you don't put yourself out their to be found. if there is something you don't feel comfortable with everyone reading, there is a private option on those blogs.

basically, some employers do the same thing. they'll search for your myspace/facebook/xanga and get a look at your life.

it's like reference.

My friends English teacher has a myspace, and nearly everyone in their school added him laugh.gif He's a good sport about it though, he comments them regularly and everything. He's that cool, young 'n' hip kinda teacher. He's lead vocalist in a metal band haha.

Anywaaaay, yeah the Xanga blog stalking thing is a little creepy. How weird would it be if a teacher just came up to you and started discussing your e-life with you o_O

That's a bit of invading personal privacy. This is the first time I have ever heard of it.

Eh, I'm not surprised. People love to use the internet to their own advantages, both good and bad. But I gotta admit that's just really really creepy.

That's weird, teachers and social network websites don't mix.

Why's that? Some teachers are fully capable of being sociable, online and off.
