My friend and I both have iPods but are stumped on how to get each other's songs on iTunes. Anybody care to give me a crash course real quick?

When I got my new iPod I gave my old one to my mom (because she had one of the very first ones that came out). When I plugged my old iPod into her computer there was a box that came up asking if I wanted to transfer the songs to her computer... if that's what you're talking about. You should be able to plug your friends iPod into your computer and it should ask if you want to transfer the songs

Do you mean to transfer the songs off the ipod and get it on iTunes?

^Yes, exactly. - edit.
Thanks, but it didn't ask for any transfer (which would've been ill), so I'm still trying to play around with it. lol. |

I don't know if you can directly transfer it to itunes but there are ways to transfer it to the computer and then you could just add them to iTunes. Try this program, I think it was the same one I used before.
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/win/58582 Or if you don't feel like installing a program you could always directly drag and drop the files but it'd take longer. Just make sure hidden files are visible and then... click start > my computer > (F:) > ipod control > music And all those numbered folders are full of your music. |

My iTunes wont let you do that. If you plug someone else's iPod into a different computer, it says something along the lines of "Your computer has detected a faulty iPod. To reset it to current settings, press restart" and then the iPod's original songs are all deleted and replaced with whatever's on the current computer.

Thanks Tribal for the link. I'll be sure to download it asap. But on a bummy note, I tried the other option really quick but the iPod didn't have an iPod control folder.

Did you have hidden files visible?
go to My Computer again > Tools(at the top) > Folder Options > View > and the second folder down labeled "Hidden files and folders" make sure the circle for "Show hidden files and folders" is filled in or checked and then there should be an ipod control folder. |

To transfer music from an ipod to your computer (I'm assuming you're on Windows) - (1) go to my computer (2)find your ipod there, and click on it (3) go to tools, folder options (4) click on the view tab, and select "show hidden files and folders", then press ok (5) now go back to your ipod folder, and click on "ipod_control" (6) then click on "music".
Now your music is spread out through all of those F folders. Now leave that window open, and go to my documents - my music. You'll have to open each one up individually. For each F folder, highlight all of the songs and drag them to your my music folder. Dont worry, you wont remove any of your music off of your ipod. After you've copied everything, go into itunes and add music to your library like normal. I hope that helps! [edit] Ooops, I guess someone already explained everything. |
