End nationalism. Unify the world. Establish a single government. All the people sharing all of the world. Eliminate foreign competition, immigration, tax havens and comparative wealth. That's four birds with one rock.

"Even a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."

Discuss.

I don't really follow the one government plan too much, but since no one is really for it, let's go.

How, at all, would world government eliminate homes and freedom? In fact, wouldn't it create more homes? You wouldn't have to worry about "crossing the border illegally" for a better home or anything. All of the world is shared.

An efficient world government would mean freedom for everyone. Not just America.

^ Well, yes, an efficient government could lead to that. Which is mooted by the fact that an efficient governement at that level is a fanatasy. It is simpy too big in scope.

Central government for al affairs doesn't even work in the US, hence the need for Federalism, or even in the UK, which is yet smaller, hence the devolved bodies.

Again with the pointless threads.

You lose diversity and culture once you merge nations together.

Stop making these stupid threads.

Not exactly. Who said anything about absolute equality?

It can't be like a tossed salad, something like America is right now?

Would it be agreeable to say that a world government would be desirable, but simply improbable for us to accomplish?

If that hypothetical Earth government turned out to be a tyrannical regime, what chances would the populace under control have to overthrow it? Besides not a damned single one, that is.

Also, such a government's reaction time to sudden eventualities would be too slow to actually be effective. Centralized governments traditionally do have this inconvenience when it comes to put the state machinery in motion. Ask the Russians, for example.

It's unclear as to how would social and economic barriers disappear, too. It's not like they will fade away just because if the current dominant economy model is meant to be kept.

Such a large area could not possibly come under a central government. The government must be split into separate branches, which are destined to eventually separate from the main branch. Additionally, there is too much of a culture barrier to evenly rule. What would Eastern cultures feel about rulers from the West?

Can you say Soviet Union? A central government over the entire world can't possibly address all aspects of it at once. It would take decades, or hundreds of years to end one distribution cycle.

It can't possibly work.

I didn't say, "all of the people of the world having equal shares of all of the world." hehe.gif

Oh well. Not that it matters at this point.

Never fear, Mystic is here. I'll blast them down with my super, turbo charged wing zero with glowing neon lights.

Seriously though, it's probably for the best that we don't have one ruling government. Too many cultures, backgrounds, etc. It wouldn't work and besides you may lose diversity.
