I've been biting my cuticles for about 3 years now, and it's become such a horrible habit. I chew on them so bad sometimes that they start to be painful. I've tried bitter tasting paint on stuff but it doesn't work and I'm not fond of the idea of walking around with bandaids around every finger. And my willpower to stop is at an all-time low...

Any ideas on how to stop?

my friend has the same habit & she says she paints her nails.
it helps her resist it & think about the chippy paint after she bites her nails.
haha.

I could try chewing gum more often... sugar-free, of course. And I don't mind chippy nail paint, haha.

I already tried putting stuff on them and it doesn't work.

If only I had the money to get a manicure every week. Also, I don't bite my nails, I bite my cuticles. When I paint my nails I manouver around them.

Yeah, try not to be so stressed. Start a new fashion trend and wear gloves, haha.

Busy yourself with something that requires both your hands and all your fingers. Like knitting, playing an instrument, etc. Keep your hands in your pocket when your hands are free, like when you're watching television. Try to keep your mind off it, and don't let yourself even bite a little bit, because you'll be tempted to bite more when you start.

Punch yourself in the face every time you want to do it.

..

Or put a rubber-band around your wrist and snap it whenever you feel the urge. :) I heard that's very effective.
