So my boyfriend and I went out to dinner. We had a really great time together,That was until we got home and we found my cat unconscious. So we rushed him to a animal hospital and I get the news that my cat is suffering from kidney faliure,And that are only opption is to put him down.
He has a week or 2 to live or I have the option of taking him tommrow so he can go into a peaceful sleep and rest in peace without anymore suffering. What do you do?,How do you prepare to tell your best friend goodbye forever? So my question to you is... Who in your life do you take for granted? And what would you do if god forbid the day you find out that that person or pet has 2 weeks to live or you could have them put out of their misery and suffering and let them jsut go into a deep sleep that they could never wake up from? What whould you chose? |

I've learned to not take anyone that I love for granted. A lot of people think it's strange. The people who I love, I tell them that I love them everyday. I don't ever want to lose someone and not have that closure. God forbid, something would happen... I'd always be able to say that the last thing I told that person was that I loved them. It makes it easier to deal with them not being there.
I've lost many people in my life. The summer before last was the hardest, because four of my friends died. This summer my mom's adoptive dad died... I dealt with his death easier than I thought I would because the last thing I said to him was that I loved him. The biggest regret in my life is that I didn't get to see my grandfather before he past away. He lived with us, and was the only male figure I had in my life. I still cry when I think about him, because I've never had complete closure. He left for the hospital (where he'd die) when I was at school... My mother and I were on our way to go see him... and before we went to leave she wanted to iron out my dress so I'd look nice for my grandpa... and that's when we got the call. This post got super long. But all in all... I think I can honestly say that I don't take any moment with people I love for granted. I know that they might not be there tomorrow... |

Like Dee, I don't take anyone in my life for granted. All the people I really care about, I tell them I love them very often and try to show them I mean it.
If I were you, I would be reluctant to take him/them in just because of the fact that I'd miss them. Everyone would feel that way, but that's being selfish considering how much pain the cat or person is in. So I would take a day to spend lots of time with it, telling it how much I loved it and that I'd miss it but be glad that they wouldn't suffer any more pain. No one wants their loved ones or pets to suffer. |

All I did was let her know I love her, that I'd make her proud, that I'm sorry for everything, and basically everything I needed to say I said. I had to think to myself "There is a very high risk that this will the last moment." Thank goodness I told her that I love her and held her hand; if I put out of my hand and close my eyes, I can imagine the last time she held it. |

Yeah,Iguess for myself my options are to try and put simon up on dialysis and see how that progresses. Its a expensive and life long commitment but hes worth it.
If all else fails i guess i am ready to face the facts that his time is up. |

Aww ![]() The worst part for me is when I start to forget their features, what they looked like, how they felt. I was only 10 when my grandpa passed away (7 years this summer) and I've never forgotten what his hugs felt like and what he looked like. It makes me feel guilty when I start to forget the little things of people after they're gone... it makes me feel like it's the least I can do is remember them. Sorry, if this has turned into more about humans than cats ![]() |

Oh, okay good. lol.
Uhm, we had a cattle dog who died when she was 12. She had back cancer and I felt bad for her because even to the end she was a cattle dog. We'd put her in her pen and she'd just beg to come out and go chase the cows. (See, I contributed to the animal talk ![]() |

I'm sorry about your cat, darling. Pet's can be like a family member sometimes. My 53 year old dad cried when our dog Duke died. That dog followed him everywhere.
Anyway, I think I take my parents for granted. I mean, who doesn't? |

I'll pray for your cat tonight. |

Aww thanks you guys.
Dialysis on cats has a 79 percent sucess rate but since they have yet to do organ transplants on animals this will have to be done weekly along with medication for the rest of his life. My vet told me she found the source of what caused this. I dont know if anyone has heard of the recent pet food recall in america and canada but there was something in there that poisoned a bunch of cats and dogs in many labels of dog and cat food. I Import cat food because when i moved over to ireland they didnt have the same brand of cat food here and i didnt want to switch him.I regert that decision now. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17870750/ for more info to any pet owners out there. |

May I ask how old your cat is, exactly? And also, what's his name? :] No, I didn't know about the food recall but it wasn't your fault for importing the food. You just wanted to stick with your cat's preference and keep him happy. It's what I would've done too. |

Ah, okay. From the sounds of it I thought that your cat's kidneys started failing because he was old or something. But never mind.

My dog had that! He ate the Purina dog food and it made him vomit blood, and the vet said it was the wheat gluten in the food. Fortunately for me, it didn't affect the dogs as much as it did cats. I'm sorry for you and your cat. ![]() |

I'm really sorry Diana.
![]() I know how you feel. My Siamese cat died a few months ago. He was really old and had been around with my family for such a long time. My mom was closest to him, so I never realized how much I actually did care about him until he died. He had kidney, heart, and liver problems. I'll pray for him! |

Ugh, Menu Foods.
They tested dogs and cats to figure out that their food was poisoned after people started wondering what was going on with their animals... and when those dogs and cats died, they kept deliberately distributing it. PETA has gone nuts over it. As have I. |
