So...does anyone know of a really good PHP tutorial? I use get-hosting.net and it has php so that means I dont need to download anything right? I want my header and side bar to be the php part...so...how do I go about doing that? Anyone know? My link is http://ATOMICxKISS.net

Well, if you want to download PHP, you can do that here. I don't think that's what you want though. I think you mean includes:

thanks for the help!! i will check up on these sites and see if it helps me out! one more thing...when saving html files...do i save them as something.html or something.php??

If they have HTML in them, then I usually save them as .html... When I switched over to using includes on my site, I switched my files to .php, for me it seems to run smoother that way and keeps things organized. When I had includes and .php extension I still had html in those files and the file extension didn't effect that.

did you use notepad? cause i will save it as something.php and it changes it to something.php.txt and its a text document...am i misunderstanding? lol im not very quick on the uptake, ive never had my own domain before

PHP files can be opened in any text editor. They typically contain PHP scripting or some HTML markup.

Try opening up My Documents (something most computers have on them) select Tools > Folder Options > View (tab on top) then go to the third thing after "Hidden Files and Folders". It should say "Hide extensions for known file types" and unselect that. Then when you save your file delete what windows has typed in there and save it as something.php |

bah...i feel so dumb!!! i changed my html to phps by doing the folder options thing, and now the site is saying that there was a parse error and there was an unexpected T_INCLUDE. I dunno what that means. Erm...here is what I have made so far...is it right???

so i did!!! lol im dumb...when i get home i will fix that and see if it fixes the problem! maybe a simple spell check on my part would do the trick lol!! thanks for spotting that!
EDIT It didnt work...still the same error message. Gah...I'm getting annoyed with this game. I don't want to load up my site until I have this done though so then they can all be phps. I'm gonna look for help at my university but if you all have any more ideas please please pleeeeease let me know! |

You also have a lot of lines like this:
CODE <? php ... which should look like this: CODE <?php ... .When I tested your code on my own server, the PHP interpreter gave an "unexpected T_INCLUDE" error at line 8, which corresponds to the first line of PHP code, so I think that's the problem. |
