I heard a few days ago about this cow eating baby chicks. The owners of the cow say they have never fed him/her anything different than other cows. What are your views on this? Do you think the cow should be put down? Me and my boyfriend both think they should put the cow down.

Do you have a source for this? Also, hey, if anyone should be put to sleep, it should be its owner for not feeding it.

sad.gif That's sad.

I don't think the cow should be put down because it didn't *really* do anything wrong. It's like when your cat kills a bird or mouse or something. It's the cycle of life.

Woah I've never heard anything like that before. I dont think the cow should be put down... it cant be his fault. I wonder if they'll do testing on it? Something's gotta be wrong with it if it's wanting to eat baby chickens. sad.gif

that's... pretty sad. sad.gif
but i don't think the cow should be put down. i don't know if the link i found is the same news, but the article i read said the cow could have been suffering from vitamin deficiencies, i think?

LOL, cows are female.

Maybe since the cow was malnourished it made her delirious?

Yeah, that's the article thing is I didn't read an article but watched it on the news, the showed it happening and said they had no clue what was causing it. By how could vitamin deficiency cause something like that, it's just odd lol.

I think it should be put down, first of all cows don't eat meat and second of all, what if it starts having a taste for other meats such as human meat. They need to put the cow down before it becomes chaotic...sooner or later it's going to start happening to all cows.

The cow was fed so it wasn't starving.

rofl1.gif That cracked me up. It's not like some cow is going to go mad and break out and eat humans. That'd be pretty tough. How do you suppose that an animal with one row of dull teeth is going to eat a human?

Besides, they probably won't put it down because it happened in India, where cows are sacred.

^I WANNA SEE

I don't think the cow should be put down; I think it should be studied more. Maybe they could put the cow in a group of a couple other cows and expose them to chicks and see what they do... without actually killing the chicks of course. I'd hate to try and steal some cow's food away from it, though.

Maybe they'll be cannibals!

Why not, it ate a baby chick, that means it has a taste for meat so why not a human? Or a cat or dog?

Dont we all have a taste for meat? XD.gif

Most cats chase and eat tons of birds and squirrels over their lifetimes... but that doesnt mean they're going to go crazy and eat us.

Jeeez. A cow is a CARNIVORE. Of course its going to eat meat. We eat chicken, so why cant it?

LOL, I could see a chick because it's small. But it'd be physically impossible for a cow to eat a human, or a dog. (Well maybe a little kitten. It could crush it.)

You have to understand an animal before you come up with crazy ideas about it.

I don't think the cow should be put down. I mean, they're just afraid of change if that happens. As someone stated, they should study more on it. But cows aren't fit to eat meat, that's the thing.

Ahhh no actually, I didnt. Cmon, I live in Florida. There's no freaking cows around here. XD.gif

Okay, maybe there are. I've only seen them though driving by a field.

So they arent carnivores then? mellow.gif

Umapati Chatterjee, a doctor at a veterinary hospital in Kolkata, said there may be a scientific reason for the behaviour.

"I think the calf is suffering from pika, a rare disease caused by deficency of salt and other minerals," Chatterjee said.

If they are worried about it's carnivorous habits spreading to other cows, I don't think putting it to sleep is the answer. They should just let it live its life and allow it to eat more chickens. I don't think anybody here should be like "THAT'S SO CRUEL" unless they are a pure vegetarian. Also, studying this cow further may help prevent future 'carnivorous cows' from appearing.

As in, he fed all the cows the same thing...err.. I think. pinch.gif hahaha

Even though I've never lived on a ranch or took part in one my mom did as a child and well of course I live on the Oregon Coast so you see cows quite often depending on where your at in Oregon. But yeah they eat grass and stuff.

Yeah, I'm a farm kid. I see 300 some cows everyday. And whenever I walk outside. Trust me, they don't eat meat. Or each other.

I don't know, maybe it's just some rare thing. They'd have a problem if there were more cases of it.

The video was disturbing, though.
