-Hotel Rwanda

I'm so sure that I completely slaughtered that quote from Hotel Rwanda, but I'm pretty sure I got the essence. In the scene, they are watching the video they had made of the violence and killings occuring butween the Hutus and the Tutsis. Don Cheadle's character is sure that broadcasting the video in America will cause change in Rwanda; but alas, change is slow to happen when the poor, not the rich, are suffering.

What have you done to end suffering in this world? How have you made the world a better place?

I make people feel good? If not by saying hi to people and holding doors and all that lame stuff... at least people can say "hey, good thing I'm not like her" lol... Someday I'll be like Oprah minus the money and tv show... you wait...

laugh.gif Re-reading my first post, I think I was being a weee bit condescending and forceful. It's just that at the time, I was feeling so...lazy. Like I wanted to get up and do something big, something memorable that would be mentioned at like, my eulogy.

And Dee, since when was saying hi and holding doors lame? That stuff can be considered pretty generous now-a-days. (:

And yeah, we're all young, and I guess we all make a difference in our own small ways, I guess I'm being all over-dramatic. shrug.gif

Expecting greatness isn't over-dramatic. Maybe you should ask what we PLAN on doing to change the world.

Talking about all this overrated crud?

Well to keep on point. When I was 16 I was an assistant for a guidance counselor at Boys and Girls club. When the guidance counselor wasn't around I offered my own words of advice, some succesful, others I just couldn't help because of their situations.

Err other then that, when I know someone that just littered or see someone near me littering I tell them to pick up whatever they threw on the ground and put it in the trash.

That's the problem with our generation--we're apathetic and jaded; nothing truly shocks us anymore, and even if it does, it's never for more than a couple moments. With the state of our nation the way it is today, we shouldn't be the way we are. People aren't aware of what's happening in the world. People don't care about anything except themselves, it seems. And it's sad.

I can't honestly say that I've done anything to make the world a better place or end suffering in the world. Sure, I've donated to this cause and that cause and to homeless people before, but I don't see that as actually doing anything because I haven't gone out of my way to ensure the world is improved at least in some aspect. I've been kind to people in general--strangers--and maybe that should count for something in this eye-for-an-eye world. But it probably doesn't.

I completely agree. We were talking about this in my government class today. Our generation is called "generation me", we're used to getting our way and getting it NOW. We don't want to educate ourselves about facts, we don't care about politics or government unless it directly applies to us, and our value for human life is despicable.
