To quote from the writer of the Superficial:
QUOTE
For some reason the clowns at Sports Illustrated decided to put Beyonce on the cover of their 2007 Swimsuit Issue, a privilege usually reserved for the baddest ass of supermodels. I'm not saying she doesn't look great in her bikini (because she does) she just has no business being there. This isn't Entertainment Weekly, it's the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. Beyonce has about as much right being there as a dog dressed in a silly hat and a cape.
I think that pretty much sums it up.

^ Preach.
I really dont see why they chose her to be on the cover where there a bunch of models who dream to be on that cover.

I have to say I thoroughly agree. That statement sums it up in my opinion...I remember hearing this on the radio or something but I was quite surprised...it just doesn't seem appropiate that she's on that magazine cover considering her profession.

Suck it up, people who have money and fame get what they want. Sadly, it's the way the world works. Oh, and it's their magazine. If their clientèle disapproves of its actions then that may have some hold over the magazine. What sells, sells. Beyonce sells. As it is, there are much bigger scandals and stories out there to fret about.

I dont think it is that serious. She isn't ruining models lives. It is just one cover. Okay so it isn't the cover of entertainment but would it be as big of deal if some "bad ass model" were on the cover of entertainment.. prolly not.

That's sad. The Swimsuit Edition was one of the select few magazines that hadn't replaced models with actors and singers...until now, anyway. What happened to the Tyra Banks, the Heidi Klum, and the Cindy Crawford-esque models of the olden days (the 90's)?

Hm, she does look pretty hott on the swimsuit cover.

But yeah, actually I agree on this one.
I think a model should be there.
Beyonce can grace us with her presence on a different magazine.
Vogue, Fitness, Elle, Entertainment. . .

leave the Sports Illustrated for the models.
they are getting hungry.

But aren't we forgetting Beyonce is considered a "triple threat"? Maybe she's trying to branch out into modeling as well... (or is that the third part? I can't remember and I don't really care...)

Beyonce is a: fashion designer, singer, actress. That, I believe, would the "triple-threat" that's used to describe her.

And honestly, Beyonce's absolutely beautiful but I've seen her do better photo shoots than that. I mean, the cover and pictures look great, but compared to some other covers, this was a lot like risque and unique. I don't have anything against her being on the cover; they've featured celebrities before, but it's the picture itself that dissapoints (not that I look at SI Swimsuit Edition, but from a uh, fashion perspective).

exactly... I'm getting tired of ONLY celebrities being on magazine covers (except for maybe Weddings or something, but then again... probably those too). Why do you think Vogue in Europe never uses celebrities for their covers?

^Well, this isn't much of a defense, but in a sense, aren't models celebrities, as well? Perhaps not as far-reaching as actresses, but Gemma Ward, Tyra Banks, and Gisele Bundchen have all become house-hold names. SI does a kind of half-half with their covers; sometimes they feature up-and-coming models, and sometimes very established, famous actresses or models.

Yes, she is. Models would kill for that kind of exposure and putting an already over exposed singer on there isn't fair. Now someone has to wait another year.

I heard about this early this week and I thought it was stupid. I mean, she hasn't modeled has she? Otherwise if she has... I don't remember. Even though they're retouched photos she doesn't look like a SI model usually does. She's trying to do weird things with her eyes pinch.gif

I haven't really notice that until I read this thread.

Even though it is not fair, it makes the magazines sell more. Since Beyonce is in the peak of her career (maybe), they thought that if they put Beyonce on the cover, more people will want to buy the magazine.

Yes it is not fair for models who worked very hard to get where they are, but people's judgments are altered if one way can bring more money than the other way.

In the end, they just want the money. They don't really care if another famous model is born.

That's because Europeans don't obsess over celebrities like us Americans do.

That's because Beyonce is one hell of a bad ass. She sings, acts, dances, & She's got the look. Why shouldn't you put her on the cover? It's JUST a magazine cover.

& Plus she works hard to get where she is now. The LEAST she deserves is to be put on a magazine cover.

I agree, I think models are celebrities.

Anyways, I don't see a problem with Beyonce being on the cover. A lot of used to be models are now actors/actresses, so I don't see why this should be any different.

And Tyra has her own talk-show and she's a model, but that doesn't mean she doesn't have the right to do it. Just because she's not an Oprah, doesn't mean she has no business there. I guess this is what I think about Beyonce too.

Yo I got that issue and Beyonce was lookin mighty fine. shifty.gif
In one of the pages she looks like she is tellin you to come and get it.

This issue is off the chainnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.

It came with these 3D shades and there are these 3D scenes where the models look like they coming at you. eyebrowes.gif

Edit// Oh and they got this one asian model, that was in a group pic with all the other models, but I don't see her on anymore pages. shrug.gif Maybe I skipped some pages or SI is being racist.

I agree, but the magazine has to pick what will sell. Beyonce is already famous and they KNOW she has mass appeal, so if they get the chance, they're gonna take it.

so what if beyonce isn't a model, shes gorgeous! she can be on whatever magazine cover she wants, so what if she isn't a model, she's very talented, that should be enough
