Is it possible to take courses over the summer (like at a public high school or community college) to get the courses required to graduate.... a year early? I'm a Junior this year. I've already taken English I, II, and III; Geometry, Algebra I, Algebra II; Chemisty, Biology; and three years of Social Studies. And, I've taken a crap load of electives. I've looked online, but I cant seem to find alot of info on it.

And if it is possible, would it be a stupid idea? I go to a Christian private school, and my parents have already said that i'm NOT going back there next year. The school is crap to say the least. So I'd be a senior, at a new school. Paying at least $7,000 in tuition. I'd be a new kid in a new school... by the time I'd make new friends, the year would be over with. My parents have already said that I have to go to a Christian school... not for the religion, but to keep me out of the public school system. But the thing is, I'd be a Liberal, Democrat, and an Agnostic in a Conservative Christian school full of Republicans. So yeah. pinch.gif

And plus, I plan on going to a community college to be a nurse. And after being an RN, I'll move up to a University for a 4 year degree. So I'd get to start college and my life a year early, wouldnt have to worry about adjusting to a new school, and I'd save my parents $7000.

Good idea? Bad idea? Anyone ever heard of anyone doing that before? Should I just be a normal senior next year? LOL. ermm.gif

Yeah, summer school's offered in my district at the individual high schools. Courses are also available online as well, though I don't know the exact links. If you need them, I'll get back to you on that. But for me, I'm not sure about you (ask your counselor), I'm only allowed to take 1 credit over the summer. So if you only need one more credit to graduate, then do it over the summer. If not, then I don't think you really have any choice but to go to the Christian school. pinch.gif You could also graduate one semester early, if you wanted.

Your best bet is graduating a semester early, because I doubt that you finish all of your credits in one summer. Check the website of the college you plan on going to and look at what requirements they have. Make a checklist of the classes that you must take and check off everything you've already taken. Once you're done with that, look for what courses you can take at the local community college over the summer that you can't checked off your list. Hopefully, you can complete the total list after one semester at your next semester. Good luck! _smile.gif

Online high school corses? Wow, I didnt know there was such a thing. If you know the links, that would be great. But if not, dont go through all the trouble looking for them... I'll probably just try googling them. Thanks! _smile.gif

the private online high school i go to was mainly created for situations like that.

http://www.keystonehighschool.com/

They give you credits towards your diploma.

if you don't wish to take that. google CTY Distance Education though they do not specialize in earning credits.

PM me if you have questions.

But you'll miss Senior Ball and all that good stuff!

My parents and I were actually talking about letting me skip a year of high school (freshman year) when I was in junior high. Never did it, but I guess high school is pretty short so it wouldn't make a difference. Next year (senior year) I only need to take 1 class...English, since they require four years. If I would have graduated early, then I would have taken English as a summer course.

Eh thats true. But, its not like we have a dance or anything. My school is against dancing lol. So we just eat and watch a video. Plus there's senior trip to DC, but they charge over 2k to go. And its not like I'm really close enough to anyone to enjoy it.

So are you just going to take English next year? Or other additional classes? Are students allowed to just take one course?

^At my school, students are allowed to only take only one course if it's the only course that they need to graduate.

Nope, I'm going to fill up my schedule with extra math/science courses. And some lame elective...like Ceramics or something

I think thats what I need to do... good luck!

Actually... I've talked my parents into letting me go to a public high school next year. *gasp* dance.gif
So I guess I'll do the same... take English IV and Economics (since they're required for a college prep diploma)... and then I'll probably just take some advanced classes like your doing. Pre-Calc, Physics, ect.

Ahhhh. Yay. _smile.gif

I`m not sure about graduating a year early, but for seniors if you fail a class (a D in any regular, honors or AP) you go to night school. If you don`t you can`t graduate. shrug.gif
