My friend did a very, very long essay recently on the correlation between one's height and one's success in the world of employment. Studies have shown that generally, the taller you are, the better your chances are of getting hired or moving up.

So you know how employers are supposed to hire you wihout considering race, ethnicity, disabilities, etc.? Well, do you think that despite that, there's stilll some bias leaning toward how attractive you are?

To be completely honest, I believe that generally, life is easier when your attractive. It doesn't guarentee you success at all, just as the opposite doesn't mean failure, but I know some very, very popular stores who will only hire people who "fit their image." hammer.gif My teacher also told us that her boss once told her that he hired her because he thought she was pretty. zipped.gif

I'm probably one of the shortest people alive for my age. Just 'cause they're tall doesn't mean they're pretty..if that's what you were saying?

Haha, it feels like that sometimes, yes. But I think the important thing is to look prefessional/neat/presentable at a workplace. Even still, it's completely unfair to hire/promote someone based on something other than qualifications. It happens all the time at my mom's workplace. Funny thing is, the owner often ends up hiring someone incapable of doing the job. It makes me sick.

They showed a chart and the difference was noticeable.

I've always believed that people were hired for more successful jobs and had room for opening to better positions if they were better looking. Its just how the world is today.

How rude! laugh.gif

Yeah, this isn't right. But we can't help how people view others. It's disappointing to me, especially because I'm 5'3.

^lol cute.

Yeah, I do believe that. I think people who are more attractive have an easier time getting jobs, auditions, and dates of course.
It's unfortunate, but I think most people tend to do that in one way or another.

Thank god, I'm tall for my age.

Unfortunately, I'm not attractive at all. Here are tips for desperate unattractive men who want to look better tongue.gif : face lift, facial crap, toner, and others. At least, it'll give some chances to be hired, right?

I heard that there are male undetectable makeups that were used for male models. It can sell to non-models too! Makeup are intended to sharper your facial structure, features, and looks. Haha. Man. I can't believe that I actually mentioned this kind of thing.

When I was younger, I heard that people will hire the ones with the specific talents. I don't know if it's still true most of the time.

Heights aren't completely everything. Makeups are women's confident. Just like the original poster stated, his mom's teacher's boss hired her because he thought she was pretty. You could be one too! Don't stress out so much. Not everyone gets hired for their height, looks, or whatever. Some goes for talents and skills which it supposes to be like.

XD.gif My health teacher told me that this REALLY young and REALLY attractive new teacher at a private school nearby was found guilty of having affairs with her students. And she didn't go to jail or something. mellow.gif Just because she was pretty and the guys didn't really want to press charges against her either. laugh.gif Lucky. Molesting kids and getting away with it. I totally agree with that; life really IS easier if you're more attractive.

Nope. But you know how models have to be at least 5'7" and all of that? Pretty people come in all sizes, but height is usually a contributing factor to "attractiveness".

Height discrimination happens more with males than with females.

Getting hired because of attractiveness really depends on where you're getting a job at. Like if you are a teenager..sure, that could happen. But in a law firm or a hospital..not as much.
In hopsitals there can be no discrimination based on attractivness, thank God. But with law firms? I'm not so convinced that it doesn't happen there. I'm sure that the discrimination is much, much more lower than in say, fashion stores, but I'm not completely positive that it's not there at all.

Indeed. It's undeniable that people are going to make biases when promoting people. If you look at a lot of the CEOs of companies you'll note that a nice portion of them are relatively tall.

It's not only bias because of height either; decisions are still made with influence from a person's ethnicity, gender, and other appearances. Because our society is so visual based.

For one, there was president Warren Harding. Chances are, people were making quick judgments about him based on appearances when voting for him into office. People agreed that he certainly looked like a great president (not to mention, tall) however, after he died he was considered one of the least successful presidents in history.

5'9 is considered average, I was pretty much the tallest Asian kid in my school. I made it by an inch, lol.

I'm 5'8, and I consider myself pretty attractive, and I admit, I have been hired and offered jobs based on the way I look. Nonetheless, I still have to earn everything.

I'm 5'8". Possibly 5'8.5" now.

I've heard about this before and even though it's disappointing for some people, it's the truth. :\

false.: No, that's not true. There was one basketball player who wasn't even six feet tall or something...Nate Robinson? If you've truly got talent they can't reject you just because you're not tall enough by the NBA's standards. In fact, it'd be stupid on their part to be that biased about height.
