I spend alot of time in the relationships forum, and I consistently see people making topics asking what love is. This is a very frequent thing... it happens at least once a month. Could we just sticky a topic called "What is love?" in he relationships forum... I would be happy to make something up that looks very professional if this would be something you guys are willing to do.

I don't see any problem with it, although someone should atleast merge all those topics together or something because people are still making them

If the topic is specific to the generic quesion, "What is Love," then the duplicate topic (provided it's within a reasonable timeframe) should be closed or merged.
It's generally a good idea (at least in my opinion) to have as few pinned topics as possible within a forum. Also, the concept of having a Relationships Forum is so that people can post topics concerning their relationships. If a topic is specific to a particular relationship, even if it does address the question of "What is Love," it's unique and should not be closed, merged or pinned for that matter. |

I'm not talking about those types of topics.... I'm talking about this: http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=146713 or this.... http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php...923&hl=love or this... http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php...056&hl=love or this... http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php...=122574&hl= or this... http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php...=103713&hl= or this... http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php...c=82792&hl= or this... http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php...c=65952&hl= or this... http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php...c=45895&hl= or... I could keep going but it's a waste of time... all I'm getting at is... these aren't unique... I've only looked through the first five pages of posts containing the word love... yes, some are unique (not the ones I have posted), but these posts about the definition are pretty common. |

I think there should just be one big topic on what you think love is, and to make it from being duplicated, you can pin it so everyone can see it.

People are going to post threads on it regardless. Ann brings up a good point. Perhaps if we put in big letters, "WHAT IS LOVE?" and pin it, it'll prevent the duplication of these threads you speak of.

There is a very large amount topics on what love is. There is also alot of topics pertaining to when is the right time to lose your virginity.
I do agree with Rebecca about only having a few pinned topics. After looking over those links none of the topics pertain to a particular relationship, just in general. Maybe there should be a topic like "COMMONLY ASKED RELATIONSHIP QUESTIONS" that is pinned. It can cover common questions that are asked and also provide links to those topics for continued discussion. The thing is, will people actually read it? ![]() I don't know if anyone remembers this but I miss Advice Abby. |

Well, what we could do as a compromise is have an Advice Abby pinned topic AND have "Official" What is Love and/or Virginity topics that are not pinned. They would be similar to the Anonymous Shoutouts and Official Confession type topics. Those topics can then be referenced in the pinned Advice Abby topic, similar to the Technology pinned topic that references links to threads of particular interest.
Did any of that make sense? I'm on my first cup of coffee. |

Rebecca, that makes perfect sense. I don't know about having an official topic onvirginity, though, as I think a lot of that topic is discussed instead of someone posting their thoughts and then leaving. The Official "What is Love" topic sounds thrifty, though. I haven't been here long enough to know of any Advice Abby topics, but other than providing links, what kind of explanations would be on the pinned topic for "What is Love?" A lot of the responses for those are really varied and it's difficult to sum it up in a pinned thread, even with the links. |

I was actually hoping more staff and community members would give some feedback.
![]() The Dear Abby/Advice Abby thread could be used as both actually. The first post could include links to FAQs, or in this case really, threads that are commonly read/replied on as to help alleviate duplicate topics as well as a place people could ask questions. That way someone could potentially answer a question by directing someone to a thread that could enlighten them on the subject. I'm sort of thinking of something similar to the POST ALL FONT QUESTIONS HERE thread in Graphics Help. Except that people wouldn't be responding by providing links to graphic site, they'd be responding with links to like-Relationship problems/questions from threads made here. If there isn't one, then one can be created. |

I think that everyones advice should be of equal value (even though some of the advice in there is just down right pathetic), but I don't think that's what your trying to create. It sounds like you want to create a directory containing links to FAQ's would be pretty useful. I would be more than willing to keep the thread updated with links to frequently asked questions within CB if you allowed me to make the topic. I promise I will take that thread seriously. It would be similar to a directory. I spend a lot of time in the relationships forum so I have a good idea of what's frequent and what's not. I agree, we should wait for more feedback. |

I agree that creating a directory of popular and common threads would be great. I'm not sure about having an advice-giving thread. I know we used to have Advice Abby but isn't the purpose of the forum itself what you would achieve in that one thread? Did that make sense?

Yeah, I just recently closed that. I wouldn't mind pinning a main topic to answer all the questions about what love is.

Emmm, I don't know about a pinned topic, but having a topic like Rebecca suggested earlier along the lines of "The Official 'What is Love' Thread" could work. It wouldn't need to be pinned; threads like that are generally popular enough to stay afloat.

If topics like that were popular enough to stay afloat the people wouldn't be making them over and over again.... I think that the reason they keep being recreate is becuase they are just barely popular enough to stay afloat... :P |

I guess they keep getting recreated because the others get closed and usually fade away since the topic has been seen about many times. Does that make sense?

It wouldn't need to be pinned; threads like that are generally popular enough to stay afloat. The reason that there are getting more recreated "What is love?" topics is because when new threads come in, it bumps it all down, so people think that there isn't a topic on it yet, so they make one. I still think that there should be a pinned topic. Easier to see, and it will prevent A LOT of "What is love?" topics. There's always the search button, people. |

^ Of course. The search button has been there for ages. As much as we try to tell them to search, that won't keep the people from making more love topics.

I guess they think that it's so old that they need to make a new one.
I still think that a pinned "What is love?" topic would be the best solution for this. The reason that there are more topics about "What is love?" being created, is because when people need advice, it bumps those what is love topics down, as what I stated in my post above Jane. I'm pretty sure that if no one made a topic in the relationships forum, (Which won't happen because people always need help with their relationship problems) No "What is love?" topics would be recreated. I rest my case. ![]() |
