The square-ish-ness of it hurts my eyes a bit.
 Well, on the sides at least. I like the purple-ness of it and the square brushes/erasers you used in the banner. I would just say make the sides.. straight.

I agree, get rid of the white squares on the outside. It might look better with a white background.
