I have a rare diease called congenital anosmia, which basically means that I have had this since birth. Pretty much, I can't smell & I've never been able to. It is very rare, especially in girl, but I though it would be cool if I could find someone on here that had the same or a relating disease.

One of my good friends was born with that... which is a good thing for where we're from. We live in a small town in Georgia, right next to chicken farms and a big Tyson meat factory. The smell of dead chickens everywhere is enough to make you sick, but he can't smell any of it.

How ironic. I live in Georgia right next to chicken farms as well.

my grandma has it. although, i dont think hers is congenital.

can you still taste your food as well as someone who doesnt have it? because if you thin kabout it..when you have a cold and your sinus' are blocking airways, you cant taste as well as if you werent sick.

Yeah. I was reading some studies & as people get older, some of them gradually being to lose their sence of smell, just like they gradually lose some hearing, eyesight, ect.
When I was around 9, I got of the bus one day & my mom blindfolded me just as I was about to walk in the door. Of course, I asked her what the hell she was doing, & she explained that she was giving me a taste test. So she had several glasses & I drunk some of each one & told her what they were. I got all of them right, although I could not explain the flavours on the jucies. So I would say I can taste, but not as well as a normal person.

When I have a cold, everything tastes exactally the same actually.

Oh man. I’m truly sorry. Why the disease does doesn’t allow you to smell?

Smelling is the best sense to detect health danger such as drug smoke, CO2, and expired foods.

Can this disease be treated?

Is it genetic?

No need to be sorry. I'm actually quite happy I have no sence of smell.
Yes. That is the one bad thing that I don't like about it.
I'm not really sure. When I was around the age of nine years, I had to go to a special doctor who treated these kinds of things. She said that I could possible outgrow it. She gave me some Flonase & sent me on my way. Not much of help at all, actually. I do beilieve that she mentioned some surgical procedure but didn't go into great detail about it. So I think it can be treated with the right equipment, but I think that it would be expensive & there would be a high risk of bad safety.
Some people think that it was genetic. My mom has searched our family tree in search of answers & there has been no record of anyone in our family not being able to smell, so I'm notsure in my case.

Wow. I haven't heard of this disease before but I guess it's good to have if you live near a garlic farm or something. XD But on a more serious note, I hope it hasn't become a big obstacle for you. I mean gosh, that must be really hard huh? I can't even envision myself having congenital anosmia.

my teacher told us she had something similar, but only it wasn`t really something she was born with. she had got a ski pole [how idk?] up her nose when she was a teenager, leaving her with no sense of smell. i can`t imagine. ;/

I live right beside a cow pasture where they spead manure so I'd say it's pretty good for me.
And it has really been that much trouble, other than people always forget & ask me if I like how certian things smell. The other day, someone really stunk up the bathroom & nobody would go in it & they were all holding their noses but I just walked in there. It was funny.

Uhm...wow. O.o;
I've never stuck anything up my nose[[exept a penny]]& it did no damage.
