I really don`t know where this would go, but i`m putting this in relationships because it relates to my brother.

My brother has "bad acne" issues. But really. It`s not that bad. He just thinks it is. In fact, it bothers him so much that he often thinks about suicide. And it`s really scary sometimes. Earlier today he was in his room with the door closed and had a knife and was threatening to cut himself. He also has one of those closets that have those big glass sliding doors and he wrote things on the mirrors with marker. Well, that`s what my parents said.
It worries me a lot to see him like this and I know he`s smarter than that. I can`t talk to him because he`ll just tell me to stfu and there`s no point because he just won`t listen.

But then it hit me. The only way to have him realize that his "bad acne" isn't bad is to make him realize that there are other people who have it worse than he does.

The thing is I don`t know how to show him this.

Any suggestions? Pleeeasseee? _unsure.gif

Thanks for any advice.

there must be an issue deeper than his acne, &that`s what you need to find out. how old is he?

hooooolly crap. i know people get depressed over acne, but to threaten suicide? damnnnn......

give him some hella strong acne cream, and tell him to wash his face.

but youre misguided. he's pissed about something else and is giving his acne as his reason. figure out the root of the problem

go see a dermatologist and a counselor. i don't think it's a good idea to take your brother along though.

like what other people said, i don't think acne is the cause of all this psychotic stuff.

^at least not the first time, you wouldn't want to take him along.

like she wrote, he's not exactly the most open person ever; then, you wouldn't want him to be embarrassed.

If he's threatening to kill himself, then i doubt it's not all about the acne.
I guess you should seek someone professional to talk to, maybe, but don't drag him into this right away.

^^ ohmy.gif Thats wrong

I would advise a Salicylic Acid treatment for the acne.Clean and Clear Blackhead Clearing Scrub. I know at first I was blackheads? Its Acne. but it has Salicylic Acid which helps loads with acne with people who has sensitive skin. For me, result came within 2-3 days.

And for the suicidal thing, I'd advise a counselor.

Hopes this helps. thumbsup.gif

WTF IS YOUR PROBLEM? Thats pathetic if you actually think that, but to actually post something like that? Your sick. mad.gif

There's gotta be something more to it. Maybe he's just saying its his acne, because he doesnt want to tell you / your parents what he's really upset over? He needs help before anything bad happends. ermm.gif

Don't do that. Because if you show him 'worse cases' he might start worrying that it'll happen to him.

Maybe take a picture of him and show it to him? I mean, if it's not that bad then it wouldn't matter if you showed it to him.

The acne is probably just a way of a coverup. Proactiv FTW? Get a counselor.

i have to agree with everybody else, it's definately not his acne.
he's probably trying to get over that girl that he fell in love with, so he's telling himself that his acne is the problem.
take him to a club to meet new girls.
he needs to move on from this one girl.
and try to spend some time with him, eventually you can ask him what happened in europe with the girl.
then you could try helping him.
he's gonna ask you to keep it to yourself, and do.
don't talk to your parents about it, he'll just lose trust in you all over again.
and that's not the best thing at all for him, for him to lose trust in somebody that was just earned.
it'll suck for him anymore.

you/your parent should make an appointment at a dermatologist right away. I been in a similar situation, except the person wasnt suicidal. tell your brother that life isnt all about looks, but if it makes him feel better, the derm. can do alot to help his skin.

its worth a shot right?

PS: some of your responses are quite rude and just plain stupid. so if you dont have anything helpful to contribute, DONT.

show his pictures of people with worse acne than him?

or the fact that he always bottles up everything and he's had it... with the break up to other things you might not know.

get him PROACTIV
maybe it will help his skin

but like other people said, its possible that hes depressed over something worse than his acne that he doesnt want to tell people.
so first get him some acne medication and if it helps then he should get less depressed over the days. if he doesnt get any happier there is definitely something else thats wrong with him

o__o i think he might have BDD, body dysmorphic disorder. I did a big project on it last year. It's where the person is preoccupied with a part of their body (lots of the time their face or skin), so extremely that it stops them from social life or... it creates extreme feelings. even if in reality the body part isn't that weird or weird at all, the person can't see it. it's a perception disorder, sort of like anorexia.

ohmy.gif Did the girl break up with him because of his acne? That might be it... I mean, if someone broke up with me because I had bad acne I'd...well, I wouldn't kill myself...but I'd be pretty down...

Just a suspicion. shrug.gif

But the acne is definitely a cover up for a bigger problem...I think seeing a counselor would be in his best interest.
