Just came across some comments from people towards rap music ..

1) "There is no such thing as rap "music'. The stuff they call music is garbage. Anyone creating this junk is no musician by any stretch of the imagination. Trust me when I say that I don't ever intentionally listen to it. It's worse than the disco craze of the seventies and I hope it goes away too.

That's why. K."

2) "Rap music sucks. It was only introduced for the folks who could not sing or really play instruments. The lyrics are terrible and really just dumb. Rap is definately for the weak minded and anyone who has never had any real morals. IT IS NOT MUSIC, IT IS JUST PLAIN CRAP. One day in the future when future generations rate the music of the past I would be ready to bet they will find Rap to be the most stupid sound ever produced even surpassing "DISCO".

3) I can't stand rap music. I won't tolerate it at all. The main reason is because it degrades and demeans women. It's a joke."

If you agree with them, your an idiot. Don't be fooled by their such "witty" comments. Damn ignorant white people ..

lol.. interesting. well not all people like rap music, so you should respect their opinions, even if its not the same as yours. but people think differently. nothing you can do about it though.

I dig some rap, but most of it is more underground stuff like Kool Keith (aka Dr. Octagon, Dr. Dooom) and Immortal Technique; most of the rap that's played on the radio is just stupid.

You can't just assume that everyone that doesn't like hip-hop and rap is white.

I agree with x1227x that not everyone WILL like the same music as you, so you SHOULD respect their opinions. And don't call them idiots because everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Also what these people say are a little farfetched and I thought you would've known better and was way past their league to stoop to their level.

^People are also saying no talent is required to become a rapper. Is that why so many dudes are entering the industry now? I don't care if they "suck". Sure, bad lyrics can influence the youth in some negative way, but you can't STOP THEM. Once it happens, it happens. There's the good side of rap and the dark side of rap. Plus why is that more white people are starting to listen to rap music and less black people listen to rock? A lot of white people here listen to, as I should say "Garbage Rap" .. but they think rap is not music. I don't know why people don't criticize bad rock like Hard Metal. It influences people to do pot like Kurt Cobaine .. we ain't gonna do that shit .. Such riduculous. I personally know garbage artists, but it dosen't mean they have no talent. They have the TALENT to make music. Club music. Music talking about the government .. politics .. poverty .. murdering .. anything. Rap IS music. People just disappreciate the "content" of the lyrics more than anything else. They have the right to spit about anything. Not only is it music, it's also poetry. Can't they get that straight?

I think your pretty "damn ignorant" for assuming it's all white people. I know plenty of black, Asian, and Hispanic people who don't listen to rap because they do think it's garbage. Jason, I'm not try to "diss" but, get a life. I'm tired of seeing your childish rants litter these forums.

People have opinions. Some people like rap, others don't. Some like rock, others don't. Get used to it. It's part of life. You sitting here and whining about it isn't making a difference. In all honestly, I DO agree with those people, although the way they say it is a little extreme. It does take some talent, but not a whole lot that I can tell. You can walk into a studio anywhere if you have some cash, have some guy generate blipps and bloops on his computer, and rhyme into a mic.

LOL, rap doesn't encourage pot? Every other rap song on the radio is talking about "Smokin' dat purp" and "Stayin' up." All the pics of Snoop Dog and "Fiddy" and all those other rappers like them with their picture taken with fat blunts in their hands. Honestly, more "gangsters" at my school smoke pot than white people.

I disagree with the way people are going about the argument, but they do have a point. It all comes down to opinion. If that's what they want to think, even if you do think it's ignorant, you're not going to change their mind and honestly, you making these stupid claims like "damn ignorant white people" makes you look just as ignorant and it makes you look like a hypocrite.

I don't know why people don't criticize bad rock like Hard Metal.

See? You don't like Hard Metal and that's your opinion - some people don't like rap and that's theirs. You don't find anything wrong that you think Hard Metal is trash... and why should it bother you that other people think rap is trash?

And I'm not arguing with you that rap isn't music because I listen to rap too. I'm just saying that maybe you shouldn't critisize people for critisizing your music when you do the same to them.

But whatever. I think rap IS music. There are good rap out there but I guess music executives feel like they don't appeal to the general public. Garbage rap appeals to the public... thus even, in your words, white people listen to them. Music executives could care less about music. It's all about money to them. I guess the meaning of music is lost in the industry.

P.S. Race shouldn't matter in whatever music a person listens to.

This discussion/argument should never take place on this forum, because the there are too many "majorities" here and it isn't a good example of the balance you would get in real life.

I agree with you. I don't even really see the point in this thread besides some little kid ranting. I'm going to give it a chance though and see what we can make of it.

I'd actually like to see your opinion Suzette. I know you're really good about debating and you know your rap/hip hop. flowers.gif

I'm indifferent to rap but I have to admit that some of the rap that I hear on the radio are pretty... explicit? I mean, why would people want to listen to some "gangsta" spitting out words about the "chicks" he f**ked or the sexual favors that he gets? I mean, I'm not saying that all rap is about sex, love, and drugs (it usually is) but rap is like poetry with beats whilst other types of music are actually about PLAYING instruments WHILE having lyrics.

Of course, I haven't listened to enough rap to know what subjects they usually rap about but it's usually something really ridiculous

^but that dosen't mean that rappers are weak minded people .. there a lot of rappers who can play instruments. any rapper, MC, or musician needs talent to make "music". you obviously experienced a lot of 'mainstream' stuff, maybe that's why you think it's usually about sex and violence .. try goin a bit underground .. i stand out for hip hop and i support good rap music. but looking at "BAD", wack rap music .. those artists have some amount of talent within them. how do you think they make money selling so many records exploding? rapping is not an easy thing. you need flow, rythym, lyrical talent, delivery, metaphors/similes, use of language, good bar structures, good timing, a lot of computer studio work .. including effects, mixing, etc .. yeah i don't think you can do that at no time. plus, i do not understand why a lot of "white people" here listen to the same artists like Jim Jones, Young Joc, 50 cent etc .. why aren't they into high-class rap music though? considering the fact they've grew up in the suburbs .. I do not know why they would be all into this shit .. but i'm not saying those kind of artists are not talented, i'm just explaining how these kids love and get addicted to this "mainstream" shit .. just ask a random white kid in my grade, "whos yo favorite MC?" .. wait theyd prolly don't even know what an "MC" is .. just say "rapper" .. then theyd say "ohh, umm i'll say 50 cent or ying yang twins" .. ask them if they ever heard of The Roots, Consequence, Cormega, Big L, Big Daddy Kane, or MC Lyte .. yeah they'd pause and they'll start acting clueless .. SMH

Okay, this is SO ignorant of you. You make a topic complaining about how people have their own opinions about disliking a type of music and you turn around and do the same damn thing. Honestly, who cares if someone doesn't like your type of music? I listen to Rock and Metal music and a lot of people say crap about it just like the say crap about Hip-Hop and Rap. I honestly don't care, think what you want to it doesn't mean I'm going to be like you and join in the conformity of what people think is right. For every type of music there's people who love it and people who like it.

Grow up, seriously.

Not this crap again.

Sorry, but how many times has this been debated?

Most crap that plays on the radio or what you see on tv isn't a good representation of true hip hop.

^But majority of the people in the United States that hate a genre of music is rap music. Don't get me wrong on that. It's their REASONINGS of why they hate rap music that pisses me off. They should have a very good reason why they hate it, not some BS like (rap is for weak minded people. rap is for low class people. rapping requires no talent at all. the rappers think they're all ghetto and gangster)

Well a lot of mainstream rap artists claim to be from the ghetto. Rap doesn't need to be hardcore. _dry.gif
