uhh, yeah. i'm trying to figure out an easy way to ask my mom if i could wear a little makeup.
it's hard to ask especially since i'm asian (haha.) and my parents are really hard to deal with.. so,do you guys have anything good to say besides " can i wear make up now,mom ?!?! " i want to ask her nicely, and find out a very, very good way to bribe her (: besides,i'm twelve,so it mind be sorta hard to get her to let me ( you know-"if your under 21 you're too young for ANYTHING!" ) |

Just give it some time. When I was 12, my mom wouldn't let me wear any either. When I turned 13, she suddenly let me even though I didn't bother asking her.
.. And I'm asian too if that helps? |

Try something like, "Mom, I'm getting a little older now, and I'd like to be allowed to wear a little makeup like other girls my age. Just a little, like lipgloss and mascara."
Feel free to edit that. EDIT// I started sneaking makeup to school and putting it on in the bathroom when I was 12, but one day my mom caught me. She was actually impressed that I knew how to put it on, but trust me: You'll be better off if you ask nicely and gain her trust. |

Woah, I'm 14 and I've never worn makeup before (except for weddings or whatever). My mom lets me but I don't want to.
Have a conversation with her about being a girl or something like that and casually start talking about makeup and ask her. |

I never asked my mom if I could wear makeup, I just wore it one day, and she didn't do anything, so I got the hint that she didn't care.
My dad, on the other hand, disapproves, but doesn't stop me. And they're both half Asian, so I don't know if I'm helping. But just ask her, and wear subtle makeup first, don't do the whole grunge one-inch thick eyeliner stuff, and no foundation. |

There's worse things that teenage girls can do than wear make-up. I would just suggest bringing it up sometime when you're at the store passing make-up. Just be like "Oh, that's pretty. Can I get some?" or something. When I was younger and wanted to shave my legs (can't believe I'm telling people this) I first asked my mom in the store to buy me what I needed. We were in the aisle and I was like can I shave my legs? Parents usually don't like to rant out in public about how you shouldn't wear make-up (or shave your legs).

Yeah, I'm Asian too. I just put it on one day and my mom didn't say anything.
I used to put it on at school too. I would line my eyes after PE (I had it in the morning) and yeah. And I would rub my eyes even though I had liner on so that by the time school ended, all of it was gone and I didn't have to worry. My mom saw me once. She was like "Don't put makeup on so often. It'll ruin your skin." I barely wear any makeup now. Only when I think my hair looks ugly. |

I wasn't allowed to til I was 13,
and trust me. my mom didn't budge. (I did use to sneak shaving my legs...another one of those 13 deals) my dad made the rule of no eyeliner til I was 16, but no big, I still don't wear it that often. just casually mention it :) and don't try to fight. if she says no, accept it. parents really like that kinda thing :) |

it depends what type of makeup you want to wear.
lip gloss---i could wear it when i was 11. but the thing is i used to not apply like eyeshadow and blush properly when i was 12, so i looked like a clown. so yeah. show your mom that you know how to put it on. or you can just start with eyeliner (only if you know how to put it on and not heavy). eventually you can wear more. |

i know how how to wear eyeliner and eyeshadow.
but i just wanted to start out with eyeliner. i think everyone could've worn lip-gloss at a young age, since it was basically to keep your lips..not dry ? |

Personally, I wouldn't wear makeup at such a young age. Especially facial make up. I started when I was about 11 or 12 because that's when I started getting zits. And first off, I didn't know how to apply it correctly so it looked orange and blotchy. And it also made me break out more. So now I don't think I've been in public with a naked face for the past 4 years. It's like an endless cycle. You get a zit, you put on concealer/foundation, then it usually makes your skin worse, and then you wear more to cover it up, and then you break out again, etc.
I just always had make up. Like all girls wore lipgloss and stuff and I got it as gifts so I didn't have that problem. But definately start off with MINIMAL make up. Twelve year olds don't need much. Just a little lipgloss, maybe a tiny bit of eyeliner. Btw, when I was 12, I wore sparkly purple eye shadow. Go figure. |

If you're going to start wearing makeup at your age, try subtle makeup. Heavy loads of it can really be a bit much. |

i've done people's make up since middle school, but never wore any.
then one day in 8th grade while my mom was putting on make up i told her she was doing it all wrong and she should do this instead of this and etc. and she was just like "wtf how do you know" and i told her i did it for people at school.. then i started wearing it occasionally around the middle of 9th grade. just start out with stuff like face lotion and gradually get eyeliner and such. know how to apply the crazy things and clean brushes too; it's so annoying when people use blush brushes for powder and do pancake makeup and all sorts of crap habits people have. just show her you know what you're doing and don't go psycho with the electric blue mascara. |

AHA i would never wear mascara. my eyelashes are just short..and they point down so yeah.
okay so i asked my mom just to make sure she would say it's okay. i DO wear makeup to school or i apply it during church when she's not around. i guess my eyes just look a little darker than usual when i have eyeliner, and my family thinks it's natural. my friend taught me how to do eyeshadow the nicest way she could think of. but,i don't wear eyeshadow. i honestly don't think it's THAT pretty. well,i tried it myself once, and i took a picture. here's what i got : ![]() :] |

TO: ITxMISHELLE I just stared with lipgloss and stuff and worked my way up. My mom just sorta got used to the fact that i started wearing it and doesnt say anything, unless i accidently got mascara on my eyelid, then she'll say "you've got some mascara on your eyelid" into my ear. WEll, out of all these opinions and tricks, choose yourself. You can even combine the tricks if you want. Good luck! |

with things like that, i just went out and did it, chances her she'll notice, most of the time she asked why and i just said because. my mom isn't that strict, but still.
if you really want to wear it, then just do it. if your mom says something then tell her why you want to do it, ask her how old she was when she started (if she does) and ask her why it has to be the same for you? i honestly think that probably don't even need to be wearing make up because you're only 12, but if you really want to, then do it. i know that when i started wearing make up, it was nothing special. it's a hassle really for me, that's why i only wear it for shows. |

I'm asian and my parents are totally cool with everything. Actually my parents are extremely westernized since my parents have been here since they were little kids.
I think it depends on how much make up you want to wear. You could always ask to wear a little bit of translucent powder to start off because you are growing up and your skin is changing. Don't be like "Mom, I want to wear hoochie eyeliner, and blotchy red blush". Maybe even ask her how she puts on her makeup and if she can teach you how to make it look natural. It might make her feel better that she's still telling you to do something without you turning yourself into a 'clown'. Good luck though!:) |

maybe you can start small...but on lipgloss without asking your mom...then show your mom how good you look with it on. Just don't OD on makeup |

I'm Asian, too, and my parents could care less if I wore make-up. My mom didn't even notice when I started to pluck my eyebrows, of all people, my dad did. Oh, and my aunt was the one that noticed when I started to use eye shadow. Why don't you try small with like eyeliner or something. I mean, you're still young, and if you forget to take make-up off at night, it'll make you look older and no one wants that.

I say you should talk to her about it, ask her to start with something easy like light eyeshadow and as you get better with your make-up ask her if you can wear different colors. But, go for about your skin tone, so you can practice and if you mess up it wont be that noticeable. When I started I was trying to hide it from my mom and I got sick during school one day and she picked me up and was ashamed that I didnt talk to her about it first. So, now I just steal my moms make-up and she doesnt really care.

i'm 15 almost 16, and asian.. and i don't wear makeup..
maybe lip gloss now and then... but its not necessary.. my other asian friends who are older than me by like 2 years who can drive and do other more adult things don't wear makeup... in fact when i usta go to public school an asian girl having some more than lip gloss was considered an outcast and too weird to hang out with the cool people. you should have enough confidence to show your face to people even without make up... you did it before whynot now? anyway make up can give you bad acne since you're just 12 and your oil glands are already working over time... with more makeup they get worse and probably harder to control mascara goes bad after 3 months and past that you're just putting nasty bacteria on your eyes. then you end up getting pink eye and other nasty stuff. Eyeliner can make you blind because you're always poking it there... and cancer too... (but thats just what i've heard.) |
