This is a long, complicated story, but I believe, to base your opinion on what should happen, the details count.
So there's this guy. He showed interest in me in early September. At the time, he was just a friend of a long time. I'll call him Alex. Now, my best friend, I'll call her Jessica, was the one who told me about this. Alex had told her and word leaked. Well, I was scared. I didn't really want to mess up the friendship that we have. So I ignored him. And our friendship broke anyways. Then I paid attention to him more and became absolutely best friends. A couple circumstances brought us this far such as the fact that I thought that he was over me. So we talked all the time. On the phone for around 5-6 hours a week. As time went by, I began to like him and realize that maybe he was worth the risk. I told Jessica and she was now worried that I'd mess up the friendship "triangle" that we three had created. Complicated, I know. But she says that if I'm willing to risk it, I should just go for it. Of course, after finding this out she would call me all of the time telling me things that he supposedly said. The first phone call from her came after we confessed our like for eachother. So Alex and I were in like. Jessica found out that he liked me back, (she originally thought that he was over me.) and, finding out that she was the "odd one out", called me. She claimed that he told her that he lied to me, etc. All kinds of lies to get me to give up and keep the friendships strong. Well, other problems rose and the growing "liking" that me and Alex were going through went under the surface. Everyone thought that we never went anywhere. I never spoke a word out of line or leaked anything about the fact that I liked him. We were, in more obvious terms, a secret. Then we declared ourselves officially dating. And we decided that it was time for people to find out. So I told Jessica. (Note that this was about a month and a half after I told her that I first liked him.) She was disappointed. I asked her why she was so sad about this. Her answers seemed to point me in the right direction. Finally, I asked her if she liked Alex. She said "not enough to do anything, but enough to make me upset that you two are together." I told her that if she wasn't okay with it, I'd break things up. She disagreed and said that it would be unfair to me. Now, as I read through her new livejournal posts and myspace surveys, she's acting all miserable and claiming that she cried every night. I find it pathetic, just a bit, and I know, from knowing her for upwards of 6 years that it's all an act. (So, if you made it this far...) This is where you come in. What do I do about her? Do I break things off with Alex, though he's the first thing that I've actually done for myself in a long time. Heck, I haven't even had a boyfriend in 3 years. Do I stay with him and ignore Jessica's drama? What's right? |

IMO, I think Jessica was being unfair to you. If she liked him, then she should have told you earlier. It's not your fault that you and Alex got together and in the process hurt Jessica. You already talked to Jessica about it, and she says it's fine...and then she put on an "act". Honestly, I think you should ignore Jessica's drama or at least talk to her about it one more time. Since you said he's the first thing you've done for yourself I don't think you should put Jessica's happiness before yours. If she truely is your friend, she'll be happy for you and Alex.

Agree^...Also I wouldn't give him up just because out of the blue "Jessica" likes him as well and your only finding out now. As said before she should of told you earlier that she liked him also , Instead you found out while you and " Alex" are starting to get serious. Besides if you were to break things off with alex would their be a spark between alex and jessica? does he even like her like that? I mean the guy likes you even if you were to break things off with him does not mean he is going to want jessica , then what neither of you get him? I say you just talk to Jessica and ask her if it really means that much to her or bothers her and if so well then your gonna have to figure something out , if not GO FOR ALEX.

i think you should ignore her drama.
like what the people above me said, if she liked him, she should have told you early, and the lies that she told you was just wrong. what i think is that she's trying to make you two hate eachother so that 'jessica&alex" can go together. screw jessica, do whatever you want! dont let her stop you from being happy. |

I had a sort of similar situation...me and my best friend always seemed to like the same guys...and she always seemed to tell me about it first so I always let her have him. The most recent guy...through the whole time she liked him and was telling me about it, me and him were flirting and getting closer and closer...so me and him ended up having a thing, and she was all pissed off at me for not letting her have him, even though she got every other guy...just like you I needed something for myself and this guy meant enough to me I couldn't let her have him, but she got over it, if your friend is a good enough friend she will understand, if not, you don't need her, trust me. Good luck with everything. I would keep the boy by the way, or you'll probably end up regretting it.

You seem to like him a lot and you deserve to have this relationship, so stay with him. Ignore Jessica and all her drama. If she's really your friend, she will try to get over him and find someone else, leaving you and Alex alone. And it's a pretty big "if," because she sounds like a drama queen what with the act she put up. Broadcasting her heartbroken feelings on LJ and MySpace is really immature and she's looking for trouble that way. If you lose the friendship with her, you might be better off. A true friend wouldn't do all of that to you, and then you could just focus on you and Alex.
