Not everyone curses so it's nonstandard vocabulary, meaning that it's slang.
Don't take my word for it though. I'm not 100% sure.

Some of the words people use to curse are actual English words, but taken out of context. For example, jackass. It's a an English word but sometimes people use it against it's definition. Same thing goes for Bitch, which is a female dog. And Bastard, and et cetera.
In my opinion, slang words are words that are made up and aren't officially defined (i.e. You can't find them in the dictionary). Just because someone uses a word out of context does not necessarily make it slang.

They're probably considered slang somewhat, but ditto Elaine. I don't think of curses as slang though; I think of them as two different kinds of words.

yeeah. i was just asking if it was officially considered as slang words.

because some dude said that they weren't slang at all, but words that clean it up, like "darn" or "shoot" are considered slang.

but i have no idea. XD i just think it's slang because like Elaine said (XD Can I call you that?) not everybody swears. and since i'm wrong a lot, and he's wrong a lot, i decided to ask. xD

Well, like I had said, if something's used out of context it's not really slang. Just not proper English. Curse words are used out of context a lot but I don't consider that slang. Just because people use thing out of context a lot doesn't make something slang. But then again, some people consider certian types of jargon slang.

To me, slang words are words that can't be defined. Like when someone makes up a word for something, it's slang.

What about "word" and "ghetto"? They're part of urban hip-hop slang. mellow.gif

Yo, foo'! The po-po a'e runnin' aftah you' fo! THA PO-PO!

That sounds like slang to me. The foo and the po-po part, at least.

But yeah, I guess they're sort of slang. Typical lingo of the youth.

They're "official slang" as defined by the dictionary's part of speech. Just vulgar.

^That makes sense; but I can't help but have an itch that maybe it's not really slang, just vulgar; considering everyone knows (perhaps not says) the word. Slang, on the other hand, is usually used just by one demographic or in one area, while cussing is a general thing.

certain swear words are slang like c**t.
but then theres words like bastard and jackass that have alternate meanings.

now the term "gay" is a overused and imporperly used term
people are like "my computer is so gay:"

so are you implying that your computer has homosexual tendancies?
or is your computer very happy?

i hate that,

I think the way people use them in a sentence kinda makes them fall under the slang catagory. And just some of their attitudes in general, kinda makes it slang as well.
