So I've been going out with my boyfriend for about two months. He's one of the sweetest guys I know, he's an awesome person, and I care for him a lot. It's just that lately... our religious views have been getting in the way of our relationship.

He's a religious Christian. I'm an atheist (brought up Jewish). Ever since he met this one kid named Mike (name changed), he's been completely different. Mike is like... hardxcore Christian, and he's really been influencing my boyfriend. Heck, he even referred to Mike as being "god-sent" to helping him with his religion.

My boyfriend mostly uses the Bible and such to help him cope with a few family problems, and hey! That's cool! But lately he seems to be bringing Christianity up a lot. I've asked him not to, and while he's trying, he still manages to somehow, even if it's a simple moral lesson quoted from the Bible. (I know that shouldn't bother me, but it does...)

We had a religion discussion yesterday just to see what we both believed, and it's not like I expected to get anywhere, but it left me really uncomfortable and frustrated... He called me and texted me to make sure that I was okay, and I assured him that I was... But it still got me thinking.

Ever since he met Mike, he's been different. His one friend who's known him a lot longer than me has noticed it, too. He just isn't the same person he was a two months ago, and well... I don't like the change. He and I are quite different anyway.

It seems even more pathetic to me to break-up over religious differences, especially since we're not expecting this to last forever or anything. He's told me that his religion is more important to him than me, which I understand. But even if he completely stopped mentioning it at all...it seems to still be affecting his personality.

While I most certainly don't want to drag out an uncomfortable relationship, I also don't want to end it too soon while still being unsure. I know he likes me a lot and I return the feeling. But if this is really going to get in the way... I just don't know.

What do you guys think?

Wow.......Hmmm No one understands us atheists.....
That shows dedication to what he believes but, You must've been hurt. I sure would've.

eh you need to make it extreamly clear that you feel uncomfortable when it comes to that subject.
and that while its nice that he has god in his life.
he needs to know that it does not aply to you.
so tell him to stop preaching to you.

[im catholic. btw lol]

If you KNOW your relationship isn't going to last, why drag it on ?

The longer you drag it on, the harder you crash when it all ends.

It's definitely not 'pathetic' to end a relationship over religion. We're talking about a different set of values here.

Besides the fact that he said that his religion is more important to him than you are, do you think his religion is influencing his personality in a bad way?

It would probably be best to try to just end it at this point; in your situation, when he said the "religion before you" thing, I would've probably snapped.

Then again, I'm part LaVey Satanist and part secular humanist, so I </3 religion...
