i am probably the most shy guy on the planet. but i don't like it. i would like to meet new friends at my school and all, but every time i try to meet someone new, it just seems really awkward. i don't know what to talk about with them and i just don't seem confident. any tips on NOT being awkward so i won't scare the acquaintance away?

You can't keep running from what you're trying to find.

are you new to the school? if not, have your current friends invite some new people together for some sort of activity, like bowling or something. so then you can all laugh together at stupid things rolleyes.gif things usually aren't too awkward after you share a laugh.

Just be casual, be yourself. Join clubs or organizations so you can get to know more people.

Complement people.

If you see some guy that has mad basketball skills, tell him that. Even though he'll probably know already, just tell him. You can just be like "Wow, you're good. I wish I could play like that. Anyways, I have class. Byee."

+ get a bunch of friends to introduce you to the new person so you won't be alone and the pressure isn't really on you to be talking the whole time.
+ i agree with angel_revelation, things should be easier if you guys all share a laugh
+ start the conversation yourself by complimenting the person, asking where they got their ____, asking them what was last night's hw, etc.

thumbsup.gif good luck!

you have to let go and just be yourself. talk what you want and dont care much about what people think of you. I used to be soooo shy, but I said the hell with it! I talked and did what i want without caring what people thought of me and now i have WAY to many friends. I would also recommend going out for after school activities and going out on parties or movies with your friends. and dont hang out with the same people everyday! go and meet new people and get introduced!

another key thing is you must have a killer personality. Be nice to everyone that you meet and dont be stuck up, make up some jokes and relax trust me people will remeber you.
