Tests, are you a good test taker? or do you freak out then blank out when you get the test put in front of you? pinch.gif

has any one ever told you that if you see the colors pink and yellow your mind is calmer and you can do better on a test? for example one of my teachers handed out the test in yellow and pink sheets, and i see people who put pink highlighter on one hand and yellow on the other. blink.gif

or that peanuts or any kinds of nuts are good for your brain to study? like brainfood? supposedly it helps you remember what you are studying better?

btw i searched and nothing came up. and if mods feel this should be somewhere else move it =]

My parents always made me eat fish the day before standardized tests. mellow.gif

I do better on standardized tests than in school, actually. I hardly ever freak out. I mean, dude. It's only a test! Nothing to worry about.

I used a Kaplan book for the SHSATs (it's only for NY) and it said that listening to music with a mathematical beat in the background with a 65 watt light bulb helps you to study better.
And I also heard that you do better if you wear red underwear. And and and anddd chewing gum helps you remember things. Yeah.

Wouldn't know much about studying though. The only thing I've ever studied for was the SHSATs. The most I do is cram the period before and I still do well in school.

Most of those ideas seem pretty stupid to me. mellow.gif All I do is study the material and read over my textbook once or twice. I only freak out when it's not expected, or if I didn't study enough. shrug.gif

I don't like to depend on superstitious stuff to do well on a test - I just study and study some more. I've never been one to freeze and blank out during a test, either.

I tend to have pretty bad test anziety, and so when I'm nervous I do badly. If I'm confident or apathetic going in, I tend to do better. My government grade shot up once I realized that I new the material and most of my class is really dumb, and my psychology grade is pretty decent considering I sleep through the class and barely ever read, but language arts tests this year scare the hell out of me, so assuming I'll do badly makes me do worse than I probably would otherwise. My AP exams last year went very badly because I got really scared, but my SATs were decent because I figured I could always take them again.

Um, as for the color stuff, that's pretty meaningless. However, if you study while holding a certain thing, and then hold it again while taking the test, it should help you remember things better. It's possible that wearing a particular color both times (so long as you can see the item) would help as well, since corresponding environments helps as well. (Mints and classical music are supposed to be soothingly helpful, but I have no actual basis for saying why that is.)
Hah, I have learned things in psychology!!

Usually I'm pretty calm before a test. But it depends on what test it is. Some I'm more nervous & freaked out than others. But after the test starts, then I guess I'm fine.

Yeah, I've heard chewing gum helps you concentrate & retain stuff you learned. Psh. If only chewing gum wasn't against the rules. Eh, I don't know about all that color stuff. In terms of stuff you should eat, I guess just eat stuff with lots of protein. Fruit is good too. & minty stuff...Altoids. Peppermints. [:

I'm okay at taking tests, I'm not the worst, but I don't positively love it when a grade is completely dependent on the tests. I usually just study hard, like real real real hard like reading every single word in the chapter and repeating the chapter two or three times. But I don't study all that often, I wish I studied in moderation instead of depending on my mood, like, studying moderately for every test instead of hard-core studying every other test. (Dude, that last sentence was totally redundant.)

Aaand the colors thing? Ehh, I'm iffy, I think that's really just phsychological. If you think it'll calm you down, then it will calm you down.

I usually get really nervous before a test, even if I know most or all of the material well. I tend to second guess myself often as well. And because of my nervousness, I end up not reading the question properly and so when re-checking, it's the perfect time for me to mess up.

Well, nuts are rich in protein but it doesn't mean someone would do well on a test if he/she eats nuts the night before a test. Though perhaps, it'll give him/her the (false) confidence he/she needs, I wouldn't rely on it. Just study, and study well.

I take tests rather well, unless they have over 50 questions on them.
