Based on past situations, common sense, leadership skills, current career and dilemmas that you have seen your parents handle can you say that you are smarter than your parents?

Based on anything.

like the college they went to.
if they even graduated from college?
How much they get paid?
How they figure out daily problems?

I'm so different then my parents....

I mean, they are both really smart.
Both went to top colleges, and both are doctors.
I could never be a doctor...
i'm an art person lol.
and blood and I don't go together.

In common sense stuff, I think i'm smarter then them in some ways.
For instance, I wouldn't marry for something other then love.
I wouldn't let drugs rip the family apart....

I dunno, i've never really compared myself to my parents,
and never really want to.

We're totally different.

Well, my parents went to school in China and it was really competitive back then. They're really smart 'cause they got scholarships and really good jobs. My dad worked in an embassy in Beijing and my mom was a math teacher. I think they're smarter than me in school, but they probably forgot everything 'cause they're oldd, haha.

I have better social skills though. They don't speak English very well, so I have to call customer service and stuff like that for them. And when someone yells at my dad, he just doesn't know how to respond. I, for one, yell back at that person. He doesn't get how things work around here.
My mom has horrible grammar and well, when she's speaking, she's saying something and means a totally different thing.

I can survive better than my parents here in the US, but if we were in China, I'd probably be miserable.

Actually, both my parents are pretty smart, and not just in academics. My mom graduated from Berkeley; my dad from San Diego State. My mom is a more academic-y person - and also really emotionally intelligent (psychology and all that stuff), and my dad is really good in figuring out creative ways in problem solving.

In terms of them being smarter than me...well, I know my mom was an A-student, but she's probably forgotten all that elementary stuff. But she's still able to help me with my homework. [: My dad, I dunno. Like I said, he's a really good problem solver. I guess, compared to my mom & dad, they're smarter than me in some aspects, and I'm smarter in other areas.

i think i can understand what your going through ...... i know how flip families are ....there very stubborn sometimes and onesided rolleyes.gif . but anyways ...i believe my parents are smart ...since there alot older and they`ve been through more ... but noone in this world is intentionallly dumb . my mom went to school in Ateneo a top school in the philippines for nursing and my dad went to Manila school of commerce and business and majored in accoutning . i could understand the situation they been going through and the struggle but i also understand that they dont know alot of things "American " and how the culture is different , the work ethic ..and how things run . and the social situation. its hard for them even after just living here . i guess the only way you can change how they look at things is proving to them . for example if your telling them theres an easier approach in cleaning the floor . just prove them and show them . and hopefully they`ll accept your knowledge .

but i dont think your parents are dumb at all . its like "they know what they know and you know"

i guess you can try the other approach by accepting there advise ...and then later on when they have felt doing something good tell them the truth .

Well, for me being smart has very very little to do with what college you went to or how much you get paid. My parents have so much life experience, nothing I will ever do will amount to what they've gone through. Because of that, they're instinctual, they know how to handle things. Do they mess up and become completely irrational? Sure. But I freak out in so many situations that they can stay calm in. I may know more facts than they do, but my parents are far, far, far smarter than I am when it comes to life.

My education and academic skills are definitely much better, but I'm rather lacking in the "common sense", "memory", and "decision making" areas. sad.gif

I can talk about them in front of their face in Spanish and they won't have a clue what I'm saying!

But other than that, nope. They're pretty much smarter than me. Except maybe my mom. I think I know more than her about some stuff. Like computers, for instance.

I'm probably not as wise as my mother, but education-wise I'm definitely better off than she was. I'm also much better with technology, such as computers, the Internet, and electronic devices.

Based on plenty family suitations and ones outside of family matters, I'm a bit smarter than my mother. From a lot of different peoples opinions. My dad on the other hand, I'm not at all.

Based on technology, I'm definitely better than my mom. But my dad's a different matter all together; he's supposed to be the genius in the family. What really sucks is that since I'm his child, my family expects me to be like him... which I'm not. An example is that I'm majoring in Robotics Engineering but my true passion lies in arts, but because my dad is an engineer... well, you get the picture. It's not that they forced me to, but you know how some parents are. They tell you it's ok but in reality it's not, so I just took the course they want me to take. blink.gif

When it comes to advices and real life situations though, they're definitely better than me! biggrin.gif

I look up to my parents. My Mom was only able to finished high school and my dad went to a community college for some classes. That was as far of formal education they had but they're intelligent people. The level of discussion we have, even when I was younger, is always profound. A lot of times, you can't judge that you're smarter than someone just because you've received more education. In my opinion, that's arrogance talking. There are high school kids who are more intelligent than some college students I know.

Well in some cases like when kids ask their parents for help like on their homework and things like aht and their parents dont know its not the fact that they arent as smart as us its because they havent did it in like a long time because its been some years since theve been in school.

I think most kids are dumb shits and aren't as smart as they really believe. Parents might not get us as much as they think. But I think they get us more than we think they do. And I respect my parents. My dad's very intelligent, sucessful, and respectable. My mom's pretty smart, not so much sucessful at all really.., but very respectable. The most important thing is, they've had many more experience, more schooling, etc. So, kids are dumb. mellow.gif

I'd say in some ways, yes. But we're both smart in different ways. In some ways I'm sure my mom is wayyyy smarter than I am.
