I just got back from seeing it. I really enjoyed it, there were a lot of plot twists and such. And Christian Bale, who might just be one of the most beautiful men alive. And David Bowie as Nikola Tesla! And Thomas Edison's hired thugs (which turns out to be historically accurate)!

Edit:// And Scarlett Johannsen was actually watchable! And it had the dude who played "Gollum!"

Anyone else see it? What did you think of it?

SJ tends to annoy me. A lot. She has a manly voice.

It's not even her voice, the girl just cannot act. Or at least, she was HORRIBLE in The Black Dahlia, but that whole movie was bad. Except for Fiona Shaw. She was excellent.

Please tell me you're kidding.
SJ absolutly sucked in that movie. Her accent was horrible, and I didn't buy her at all. I mean, I liked her in other films, but this just wasn't her role. She can't do period pieces for shit.

As for The Prestige, it was okay. To me, it was too much like The Illusionist (which I enjoyed better). Edward Norton did a much better job than Hugh Jackman and Christian combined.

Anyways, it was like a repeated movie for me. (Though the stories aren't the same).
This is how BOTH movies went:
1. In the beginning, they showed a clip that happened later. Then it went back to reality.
2. It then went to that clip later on in the movie, and it started to go one revealing the truth.
3. Right at the very end, both movies showed quick clips that revealed the truth.

If you look at the format, they are much alike.

And SJ, hmm. Bad acting? I'll see for my self. (x

Hahaha. My friend was telling me how she likes Scarlette Johannson. I told her that I didn't, and she asked me why. I said, "She couldn't act to save her life," and she was surprised, claiming that she can act. XD.gif Oiiii. She's just.. GAH. This is why I'm going to see The Illusionist over The Prestige. rolleyes.gif And because Edward Norton.. is just.. AWESOME (as aforementioned).

No one has said anything about Christopher Nolan directing! Memento, Insomnia, Following... I can't wait to see this film.

I don't mind Scarlett Johannson...I liked her in Ghost World and The Perfect Score.

i saw the both the prestige and illusionist, both are good to see. you shouldnt really see one over the other.

but prestige is more exciting. with the story of competition and all, that goes to the point of obsession, which goes to the point of death. and twists that i actually didnt expect!

the acting in illusionist was better, if thats a big deal for you. but the acting in prestige was definately not bad by any means. i actually didnt think i'd like the prestige as much as illusionist. but i think i like it better...

I saw this movie last night and I must admit I was kind of disappointed. It was no where near as good as I thought it would be. I guess a large part of that is because I predicted what was going to happen at the end of the movie half way through it. On top of that some parts were kind of boring. I also wish Scarlette wasn't in the movie, she really didn't bring anything to it at all.

At one point, I wanted to see this due to the commercials and how that guy was saying how they take ordinary and make it extraordinary. I was a little iffy to go see it... maybe I'll rent it when it comes out.

True that. The plot twists wouldn't be as exciting a second time around. Although it would be interesting to see if you can put everything together before the revelation at the end *shrugs*

This movie was pretty awesome, it kept me on the edge of my seat, especially during the case of the magician's murder. It turns out to be something pretty trippy.

The twist was that Borden was a twin (that's how he did his disappearing man act). And they lived as one person.

And when Borden sent Angier to Tesla for his secret, it was like a wild goose hunt. But Tesla actually created something for Angier (though not really want Angier paid for in the first place). And what it was was a cloning machine. So Angier used it in his act. Hence in the end when Borden shoots and kills Angier down in that basement, you see all the water thingies holding the dead Angier clones.

I really think that this movie had great potentional to be great. I just don't think that it came out as good as it could have been. The plot and script was good, I just think that maybe the casting and execution of it could've been better. It was like they just memorized their lines and plopped themselves in front of the camera and that was it. To me, it didn't seem like the got into their roles.

I liked the Illusionist much better.

Erm, well, If the Illusionist is better than The Presige, I must see the Illusionist. 'Cause I loooooooovvvvvveeeeeee The Prestige. Yes, SJ can't act, but I didn't let that ruin the movie for me.
She actually was A LOT better than in The Black Dahlia. Christian Bale + Hugh Jackman = throb.gif . And the guy who played Gollum was in it, It's weird seeing him in other movies, but I do like him as an actor.
The Prestige, to me, is like The Village (not the story at all, but the majority of people not liking them). A lot of people dont like it, which I find strange. ermm.gif heh.

Hmmm... Now I wanna watch it again. laugh.gif

As a whole the movie was amazing, and Hugh Jackman playing the 'bad guy' was a shock to me
I enjoyed this movie and it happens to be one of few that hits my fav list lol
as for Christian Bale his role in the movie was amazing the whole I love you today and not tomorrow thing with the wife was a bit confusing till it all came at the end was all kinda new to me (not a movie fanatic)

The Illusionist, I must say has a great story line and is a all out good movie, though it can't top the The Prestige. I've seen the Illusionist before The Prestige and for a second I thought it was going to be a bad movie, to my surpirse it wasn't. The only thing I didn't like was Edward Norton's facial hair... which he looks nasty in...
Paul Giamatti is a superb actor and I was delighted to see him in the movie as well.
