Isn't mathematics wonderful?

CODE
Let c = 0.999...

    10c = 9.999...
10c - c = 9.999... - 0.999...
     9c = 9
      c = 1

Yay! This proves that math is BS!

*burns books*

Not at all! It makes sense and it can be proven in numerous ways, including relatively simple ones!

Ew.

Ew ew ew.

I refuse to recognize math as a legitmate...anything until my calculus grade improves. Because it's kicking my ass and I resent it. All such crap. Who cares if it can be proved that .999 = 1? Makes absolutely no difference to me.

Believe it or not, there's not any sort of "trick" to this proof, and there are numerous other proofs. It's a simple equality, just as 1/3 = 0.333...

I asked the local mathemagicians of the school about it.
It wasn't to my surprise that they actually knew quite a bit about it. mellow.gif

They showed me a couple of ways to prove it.
I got kind of confused. ermm.gif

Well, 0.999... (that's 0.9 with an endless string of 9's after it) is the same value as 1.

The fraction proof is by far the most understandable for me, and I never thought of it that way. Even though I am totally disliking my Math class, this was acutally kind of interesting.
