Hi everyone.
Okay well I just started my sophmore year of highschool and I've never had a boyfriend before.. not that I don't want one. Trust me, I do, but the thing of it is..I'm not so sure its worth wanting or trying for. Considering I've never had a boyfriend, I wouldn't know. So I was hoping you guys could tell me the good and bad parts of relationships so I know if its really worth what people say it is.

I think to say if the relationship is worth it depends on the person you're with. Many relationships are worth it, but then many or not, so if you'd want a relationship that's worth it, you really gotta go for someone that you personally think would fit your first boyfriend perfectly. Some good parts may be.. iunno.. bragging to your friends? You're not that lonely? You can have dates? The cons are.. Breaking up? Um, if he cheats on you, that burns. Many emotional rollercoasters throughout the relationships may touch your social/private life and make it worse? Er. I guess. XD There's many more, but that's what I can think of on the top of my head.

I think it's like how old people (no offense to them) say that there's nothing like having your own children. I think in a way, it's like that.

Good:
you're known as together, not one or the other.
he's all yours.
you have ALOT of firsts together!
(like first holidays, birthday parties as a couple, each other's birthdays, anniversaries.. yeah.)

Bad:
cheating.
fighting.
heartbreak? (depends....)
jealousy.
the list goes on because there's alot of bad things that can lead to breakups so i'll leave it at that for now.

I agree with the people above me. It really depends on who your in the relationship with for it to be worth it or not. Sometimes being single is way better then having a relationship. More freedom. But then what can compare to being held my someone who loves you as much as you love them? There's always the chance for pain and heartbreak... but even if it may or maynot be worth it, you gotta experience it sometime. Otherwise all you'll be doing is living in fear, like, you want a relationship but you're afraid of getting hurt.

Just experience it for yourself, you'll know if it's worth it or not.

If you've got a common goal (be it a fling or serious dating or marriage) and are both striving towards it together, then I say it is worth it. Barring that you know that you care about each other and would not hurt each other intentionally, of course. If you get to experience growth in the relationship, both in the actual relationship and in yourself... that's what makes it worth it.

But I definitely didn't find that with my first boyfriend. I think you've got to accept you don't know anything yet and you've gotta throw yourself out there with that mentality. To learn.

Don't waste your time with it. Focus on more important things - like education :) Have fun with friends.

Unless you LOVE drama. Although I think most teen relationships are mostly moronic. Sorry :)

I have a cousin who had an on/off boyfriend throughout high school, ended up going to college with him, and now they're engaged.

So... in some cases, it IS worth it.

I`m a sophomore at highschool too.
& I`ve been in a couple of relantionship`s before. And well, I think they`re really worth it. If you`re in a bad relantionship, I think it`s worth it too. Because when you`re in a bad relantionship you learn to be more careful about the person you choose and you learn how to do thing`s differently the next time around. And for good relantionship`s, it`ll be worth it for all the kisses, hug`s, talks, argument`s, proving that you`re sorry, and etc. In my opinion, all relantionships are worth it.

If you're a really academic-ey person and you want better grades, maybe relationships aren't worth it. We've got more time to date later on in life but you wouldn't want to fail school because you can't wait. Although I'm sure there's a lot of people who can date at the same time and be good at their studies, try date a smart guy who can even help you with homework laugh.gif !

Yeah, agreed. If you are serious about your grades, a relationship may not be the best thing to head into. They can take up a lot of time and commitment (between studying, friends, your new boyfriend, sports, other after school activities, etc.). The emotional stress can reach high levels sometimes. You definitely introduce a lot more drama.

Then again, if you're lucky to find a guy who's good for you, relationships can be awesome. Your boyfriend can be there for you when you just need someone, he can cheer you up, just make your day and make you a happier person in general.

I think it's definitely up to personal preference though. Some people just like being single, openly flirting and maintaining their freedom. Others just need someone else in their life.

I guess since its your first relationship and also that your in grade school perhaps its not worth it. But do you want it to be a serious relationship, do you find this other person to be someone that you would want to spend your life with? If you answered no to these questions or even one perhaps. Then I wouldn't try to hard in it to make it so much of a serious relationship.

Although your learning about relationships and what you may want in a future husband when you want to get married. Which is something i think everyone should do. You learn more about yourself and the other person, so if something were to ever go wrong you still may have a great friend.

If you truely love somebody, you wouldn't question yourself if it's worth it.

I believe that you can't just "find" a boy/girl to love, it comes naturally.
When you meet this perfect match, you'll know.

but watch out, a broken heart kills... I would know

hope that helps

I don't think there is such a thing as a perfect match. That's why relationships require work and lots of self sacrifice. I don't think loving someone comes naturally all the time. Really loving someone, in my opinion, is sticking around when it doesn't come naturally.

there's good and bad parts to everything, let alone 2 sides of the story.
this applies to everything.

a relationship shouldn't be a stress-made-on-earth kind of thing.
it's to explore, see who's really out there for you.
if it's your first, don't be scared.
there's a first for everything and you'll learn all through the way.

the good part is, you have someone to care for you.
maybe have the same interests, and maybe someone WHO GETS YOU.

the bad part is just the opposite.
maybe the guy treated you badly, used you.

but just use your first impression method.
you can know more about the guy before you have a relationship with him.
take it slow and just make it a smooth ride.

it'll work out for the best and i wish you the best.

Well yes, it all depends on what you want to get out of the relationship, and who you develop that relationship with. Some people, along with the right timing and situation, will make it all worth it. But on the flip side, some people, with the wrong timing and/or situation, will make having a relationship seem too much to make it worth it.

I can't tell you if it's worth it or not, because I'm not quite sure of that myself. My first relationship with a guy started out rather beautifully. He was my first boyfriend. I liked him, thought he liked me too. So you can imagine my joys when he asked me out. Then things turned bad. He didn't quite treat me right, but being the girl that I was, thought it was me who did something wrong. Gave him even more attention...got to a point where it felt like I was pushing for something to happen. And finally, after a month of pushing/pulling he broke up with me. And being the first relationship, I didn't know how to handle it. I thought, at the time, that it was me who did something to make him not like our relationship....that it was my fault and that, in a way, I pushed for him to break up with me. Then I found out that he didn't like me, and only asked me out because he knew how much I liked him, and thought it was the right thing to do to ask me out. I was so hurt after that...and at that point, I felt that having a relationship isn't worth anything at all.

Result of that? I went off liking boys and having anything to do with boys past a friend for a year and a half or so.

As life goes on, you move on. And so that's what I did. And by some pure chance, I fell for a close guy friend of mine, and we're together now. While yes, the process of us getting together was rather...hard due to his ex girlfriend who used to be my friend, we're together. And I feel every moment we have is worth all the hassle and pain and worry that I've felt before we got together. He came at the right time for me. And we clicked really well...so it's all worth it.

Moral of my long winded post?

When you meet the right person in the right time under the right situation, and you truly like and love them, everything will be worth it. Because you'll appreciate them, and this in itself, drives you to feel that everything with him/her is worth the negatives. This is what makes long term relationship and marriage work.

With the wrong person (or even right person), but during the wrong time or situation, it won't work, and you won't feel that it's worth anything.

if your planning on thinking to be in a relationship you have to know and expect that it will have some ups and downs. if your ready for something like that then you should go for it, just be sure your ready though.

Some people say relationships are worth it, some people say they aren't worth it, just listen to yourself. If you feel that having a relationship is worth something to you, then go for it! If not, then start concentrating on more important stuff... like, yes, school, and all that fun stuff.

Depends Upon whether or not you would be able to handle breaking up with that person. I also have to make sure I really like this person, no matter what. So far I've had two people like that. My EX Mikayla, and someone else, who I'd rather not say.......

Yes Yes, I agree. School is more important. It'll basically decide whether or not you will have any life at all when you get older
