What famous or infamous thing happened in your town?

Megan Kanka (Megan's Law) lived in my town. Some of the anthrax letters shortly after 9/11 were spread around my town, and a lady who worked in the plaza next to my parents' store died because of it.

One of my teachers got pregnant by her student and it made the front page of a newspaper. I made a topic about it awhile ago.

Too much crap goes down in NYC, not too much stands out to me anymore.

But one thing still pisses me off. There was this story about a young, single mother who was beaten by her two sons (12 and 14 I think) on Mother's Day because she wouldn't/couldn't give them money to buy clothes. She actually had to go to the hospital. It was MOTHER'S DAY! That was so disrespectful, she shouldn't be the one giving them crap.

I can recognize many scenes in Spiderman as it was shot here. Someone who lives about 5 minutes away from me claims that Spiderman was shot downstairs his place but I strongly believe that he's full of shit because he always is.

The sniper incidents were really close to our school, and we had Code Red. It was terrifying. And we had a lot of MS-13 gang activity (actually, we have MS-13 gang members in our school). I'm sure other things have happened, but I don't really remember them.

I live in North Haledon New Jersey. Population, less than 10,000.

As far as crime goes
Looks like there has never been any murders
One rape in 2001, 2002, & 2004
Burglaries (which is what I'm scared of)
11 in 2001
12 in 2002
19 in 2003
23 in 2004

Thefts in general
62 in 2001
46 in 2002
62 in 2003
52 in 2004

Oh joy. It's a small-ish town. Easy to steal shit I guess.
Thank god nothing happend here.
The site hasn't been updated since 2004 so yanno.

Other than that, a few years back we heard there was a hooker who lived on our street.
There was a movie filmed here in 1996 called "Ransom"
And yeah, we got hit with the myspace bug.
A emo kid posted a bulliten on myspace like two months ago for a house party about 5 doors down.
The parents were home and were giving the kids pot and liquor. The cops stopped by and the parents were arrested.
The only reason we found out was because a Herald reporter knocked on our door to ask if we knew them and if I was at the party.
No. I wasn't.

Yeah. Welcome to North Haledon.

Well, at first that's what i thought about Jamaica also, but the neighborhoods not that bad. It's pretty nice and calm. But I don't know about Jamaica HS, though they have one heck of a nice track/football field. I wonder why I have to suffer with Edison's crappy field that needs fertilizing. (so off topic)

Jamaica is infamous for it's school shootings and people getting mugged and stuff like that. It has a really high crime rate. People from my school who got into Jamaica HS transferred to St. Francis. Noone wants to go there. mellow.gif
It's an ok school academically, but the people aren't that good.
And I'm talking about the area around Jamaica Av. It's pretty dangerous there. The teachers from my school tell us not to stay after 7. And they tell us not to use cellphones and iPods when we're on the streets. And my friends tell me stories of them getting mugged there.
I think it's quite scary..

Um... Port Washington, NY... hmm... part of Meet The Parents was filmed here, and some person's corpse was dumped in the rich-area of the town (Sands Point), but they found the killer.

Other than that, nothing much.

Nothing huge ever happens in my town exactly, but sometimes around my town. I think somewhere around here they filmed scenes from A Beautiful Mind and a lot of shooting (as in, filming =p) from The Sopranos takes place around here. There's also some Cherry Blossoms around here in the spring as well. But nothing, like, exciting exciting.

P.S. I'm from NJ too XP
