I don't know how to edit the topic but this is about RACIAL stereotypes, just in case some know it all doesnt come in here and say all stereotypes are not racial.
Do you agree that stereotypes really do have a lot of truth to them and are not just something some racist person made up? ![]() Another question...and be honest. Have a lot of races you have been around/seen/etc fit the stereotypes about their group? Have the majority you've seen fit that stereotype? ![]() |

Stereotypes can be true.
Stereotype is base on one's person experience. Stereotype can be base on majority of people. For an example, "Asians are smarter than Hispanic". Obviously, it's not true. There are Hispanics smarter then Asians. People just don’t know any intelligent Hispanic. "Asian can't drive" In reality, some Asian know how to drive. |

^ I agree with him.
It's not true for everyone. For example, me. I hang out with the "Asian" group in my school, but we don't hang out because we're all Asian. There are a few of us that aren't. We hang out because we take the bus together. I know I don't exactly fit into the "Asian" stereotype. 1, I'm not doing so well in school; I procrastinate too much. 2, I don't watch anime/manga. 3, I don't like Asian music. There are some ways I do. 1, I watch dramas. (Yeah, couldn't think of anything else. ![]() QUOTE Have a lot of races you have been around/seen/etc fit the stereotypes about their group? Like I said before, not all people fit into their racial stereotype. And I've never really met someone who was 100% fobbish. They all have something different. |

Actually, surveys and studies could show that Asian are "smarter" than Hispanics. Yes, I agree that there are Hispanics smarter than Asians, but on average, it could be true. Hypothetically speaking, that is, if you make Asians and Hispanics take the same test, the Asians will score higher percentages on average. I stress "on average". There definitely are Hispanics that are "smarter" than Asians. Most of these differences, on average, of "intelligence" (more like test scores) have mostly to do with social issues and other racial discrimination. For example, the majority of the lower class people in the United States are Black or Hispanic (I stress on "majority" again) and social class and education has a lot to do with the so-called intelligence and percentages of test scores. I do believe that most stereotypes carry some truth with them, but they get out of hand when we blow them out of proportion and generalize an entire race without considering individuals. Even if the statistics are correct, it's not acceptable to assume the same statistic with every person. |

The majority of Asian score higher than Hispanic. That's true.
It doesn't mean all Hispanic are dumb. So, the stereotype, "Asian are smart than Hispanic" is still wrong. The stereotype doesn't govern every individual. |
