Is it better to try and fail, or to never have tried? A simple enough question, but it comes down to it, how many of us can admit that we're too afraid of failing to ever try?

"'tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all."
You never know until you try; the worst that could happen is failure, but that's better than the possibility of never knowing the outcome. |

^hah I was going to quote the same thing
![]() But I rather try something than never try it all. Even if it means failing once or twice doesn't hurt to try. |

I'd definitely have to agree with the above responses.
It's so much better to have tried and failed than to have never tried and have no idea what the outcome could've been. |

Depends on the situation. If the outcome is worth very little, but needs a lot of time and effort, then sometimes, its just better not to try at all.

I think it probably should be better to try and fail, but I've gotten so sick of failure that I'm usually most inclined just not to try.

I'd say to try and fail, so that you won't at least live your life thinking ' What could have happened, " or " If I had only gotten enough courage " or " If only I wasn't so afraid and held myself back " and any other assortment of the regret that can come with letting chances and oppurtinities pass you by.
Although just a while ago a friend and I were talking about how never trying, while makes you say I could have, should have, would have also let's you live on with the infinite fantasy that maybe everything would have worked out just how you planned, and there will always have been a chance, an inkling of hope instead of knowing right out that nothing could have ever come from it except maybe embarassment shame sadness and failure. ( Unless of course you try and succeed ) |

i feel that the only time you truly fail is when you fall and stay down;stop believing you can do it so you give up.

Try & fail. At least you won't regret not trying it, even if the end result doesn't turn out the way you want.

rather than never try at all, and don't know what you're missing |

Looking back, there were so many things I wanted to try, but didn't because I was afraid and now I'm thinking, "what if'" all the time. I guess if I don't want to be haunted in the future, I should try no matter what. Even if it's something little because you don't know significantly it can affect your life.
//edit And another obvious thing I forgot to mention but other posts above be that probably mentioned but I didn't bother to read so I'm mentioning it now... you get experience from trying, therefore making the road a bit easier to drive on ya know D: |

If failure means you end up losing more than you start with, then why bother trying?
Risk vs Rewards. |

I think it depends. When there's actually something worth losing and there's a risk of failure, then I would definitely not want to go down that route.

it depends... it's better to never try (usually) when trying obviously would end in failure that would kind of ruin your life, like quitting your job and trying to become a roofer when you're 50. but most of the time it's better to try and fail, because you never know if you sum yourself up enough, or if you just might get lucky.

Try and fail is popular and is probably the right thing to do most of the time. But I'm going to pose something on you guys: Is there a situation where its better to do the opposite? Would the Spice Girls still be successful if the decided to not try to become solo artists and fail?

If trying requires too much effort, I guess I won't even try at all unless I'm really determined. So I guess that means I'll give anything a try.

I despise failure. I DO NOT like to fail.
therefore, I do my best to avoid said failure, even if it means not trying. |

QUOTE “Do or do not... there is no try.” -Yoda Just kidding. Never let the idea of failure prevent you from trying. Unless it's jumping off of a 100 story building to see if you can try to survive the fall. Or something of the like. |

It IS limiting myself. To the things I know I can do. And as I have no desire to do things that i cannot do, then i do not feel limited.

And as I have no desire to do things that i cannot do, then i do not feel limited. yea i know what you mean i get your point ...but how would you assume that if you dont try you`ll fail ? .....how would you know if theres no given fact that you failed in that particular thing ? .....do you base it on intuition ? because honestly heck there are more things people can do then what your capable off. i see it through my mom she is like the lumberjack off the family she can like do anything and fix everything its crazy . then what most other american parents can doo ....shes like a hard worker...really hard. |

actually i would actually try something and fail then never to have tried. i like taking risks in my life and sometimes i think i might screw up on something but it actually turns out great! one time i had a contest to go to and i didnt want to i prefer to fail and not make a fool of myself in front of the judges. but i tried it and i won first prize and 100.00 dollars! =D
