I searched to see if there was a topic on this but I didn't find much...if I'm wrong, just close this.
Anyway, Global Warming--serious problem. I didn't realize just how bad it was until I saw this public service announcement for it a few minutes ago. 2005 was the hottest year in recorded history. Every day, we release 75 million TONS of Carbon Dioxide into the atmosphere. In 2000, it rained in Antarctica. In just one decade, there will be no glaciers in Glacier National Park. Polar bears are drowning. There is more Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere now than in the last 650,000 years. In 2004, the South Pacific received their first hurricane in recorded history. This is crazy. There must be something we can do, right? |

You should go see An Inconvenient Truth. It's a really good documentary about global warming :)
And there's this website that it shows after that you can go to to help learn about how you can help stop global warming. I forgot what it was though... :( |

Exactly. I think the main reason that it worries me so much is that not enough people care, you know? I think it would bother me less if the majority was doing all they could to help, but that's not the case.

Doing a walk to raise awareness and doing a walk to lose weight are two completely different causes. We need to find an alternate fuel source that works well and we need to stop releasing aeresols into the air.
But you're right, Shelby. We could walk, but we still need an alternate energy source to take us places that we can't walk to...like an island, or another country. |

Are you thinking of ethanol, Shelby? It comes from corn. The only problem is that it takes more energy to make ethanol than ethanol produces.

People still give off CO2. We have to breathe, don't we? Maybe we should go plant more trees :) Trees eat CO2. And in my opinion, a great deal of Global Warming is due to the sun (very controversial. I'm not sure about the sun, but I'll look it up. And you're right, we do need to plant more trees. And plants in general. They make oxygen and eat carbon dioxide.
Breathing is not to blame...people have been on Earth for thousands of years, but the ten hottest years in HISTORY have occurred within the last fifteen years. Aerosols and fossil fuels are more to blame than exhaling. |
