Who the fuck is bumping old surveys? Anyway, Kiera and I brought it up before here and discussed it with Fae (when she was still a mod
![]() Nothing came of it. So therefore, now that useless surveys are being bumped, I'm bitching. This could probably go in feedback, but I'm really just posting it in the lounge because that's where the surveys are. /gripe; (And I mean, I do get that the one Jusun posted is to get an idea of the site's demographics, but really. Do people need to post "I took it!" in the thread? Why not just put it up in announcements?) |

That's just the most intelligent thing that anyone could ever say about this issue.
Thank you for spamming in my thread. Really. Honestly, I should've added a poll to this asking how many of people actually read each and every single survey reply. ![]() Nobody ever does. |

Honestly, I don't read the surveys people write, but I think it's really fun to post and write in them. I do read surveys from close friends if that makes a difference >.<
I wouldn't consider surveys spam though. Just because no one reads them, doesn't mean it's spam. It's not entirely useless because they do have a purpose (despite the fact no one reads them). |

Well, the justification for surveys is typically, if not always, that they let the community get to know each other better. However, that reasoning is rendered completely obsolete because people don't read them. If members want to get to know each other, it should be on a more personal level with the getting to know cB threads.

I don't think surveys are really spam, in some cases they are when people just reply frantically about the answers of someone else. But there is one survey that has really good questions and its there for people to get to know other people.
Thats what most surveys are for, and a long time ago we had them in the girls locker room and stuff anyway. |

If you happened to read a few pages of the Mod Performance thread thing I linked earlier, the discussion was actually spurred by all the surveys in the girls' locker.
I don't need to rebut your opinion because I've already offered my point of view in my previous post in this topic. You'd know that if you actually read it. |

I love new surveys. The bumped ones are annoying! NOBODY IS GOING TO READ THEM. Seriously, I think that after a certain period of time, they should get closed. Although, I take old surveys from time to time but that isn't the point.

But Anna, you said no one reads them right, therefore they're useless spam? Well look at writing. Sure it gets a lot of views but I bet it's just people curious at the writing but not actually reading it. And since no one reads anything there, are they considered spam? Topics like What are you listening to, what are you watching .. no one reads what people are listening to or watching. It's just a fun thing for them to post in, kinda like surveys. well idk now >.< |

^ Actually, A LOT of people read 'what are you listening to/watching' topics. I do. But old surveys like 'Who are you' and such aren't read. Why bump things you know NOBODY'll read? Useless? Definately.

Sure it gets a lot of views but I bet it's just people curious at the writing but not actually reading it. And since no one reads anything there, are they considered spam? The difference there would be that Writing is posted up for cc; essentially it's a showcase. If people read/view the original post, but don't reply, it's because they don't have anything to say/don't want to offer feedback. The only real supposed purpose for surveys are, as stated before, they let people get to know each other. Again, I'll state that that said purpose is defeated because people scroll through them. asdf you edited. Anyway, who says I don't think those threads aren't useless also? Kathleen already brought it up in feedback before, though, which is why I didn't say anything about them. |

oh well I still don't consider surveys spam. I guess like Sandra said, new surveys are okay since there are barely posts in it.. but.. |

Also, who in the world would read a 400 replies survey dated 2004? I certainly wouldn't! It's just like birthday threads. You don't bump 2004 birthday threads, do you? Would I call it spam, not exactly, but would I call it stupid and useless? Definately.
Old surveys should be closed. |

But what would be the timeline for closing surveys? A week? A month? A year? I'm not trying to be difficult, I'm just trying to figure a way to make this work and to lessen the irritation of having old surveys bumped.
Having said that, I'm sorry Anna, but this really needs to go in Feedback. I'm also going to modify the topic just a tad so that people know what is being discussed. As always, please feel free to PM if you have a compelling reason to have this moved back to The Lounge. Mods, please move this back if you feel it shouldn't have been moved in the first place. |

I actually think a week would be better. A month old survey is too old.

I'm not trying to be difficult, I'm just trying to figure a way to make this work and to lessen the irritation of having old surveys bumped. It's no problem, really. I knew it belonged in feedback, but I posted my reasoning about why I posted it in the lounge. ;xHaving said that, I'm sorry Anna, but this really needs to go in Feedback. I'm also going to modify the topic just a tad so that people know what is being discussed. As always, please feel free to PM if you have a compelling reason to have this moved back to The Lounge. Mods, please move this back if you feel it shouldn't have been moved in the first place. Perhaps surveys should be closed when the activity dies down? :\ I really don't know. We also had a dilemma about the length of time a birthday thread should be left open before, and we never resolved that. >>; So um. I don't know how that was relevant to my topic. XD |

It's relevant. The solution to the issue of when to close a topic pertains to both Birthdays and Surveys. I'm just not sure exactly what that solution is.
cBers and Staff, please add some feedback to this. :) |

Considering the activity of the Lounge (based on a week), it moves too fast. I think having a set time to close a certain thread isn't... I don't know, sensible? As Anna suggested, a staff member (or member) who comes across one could contemplate the activity of the thread and close it if it has died down. Makes sense.
I'm not sure about not allowing surveys altogether. I don't want cB to be so restricted. |

Adding on to Mona's idea, maybe they should just be closed after they're 2 or 3 pages back. I think that waiting a week/month would make it lost :
Maybe they should just be deleted? Because I don't know if I'm thinking straight or not, but when topics are closed, they're bumped to the top of the list of topics o_O ![]() |

Oops, no follow up. I remember bringing it up backstage but the response was close to what Mona is saying. Mods will decide if a survey is useless enough to be closed since banning all would be too much of a restriction. I thought all that meant was "no, don't kill 'em. Leave them alone unless they really, really bother you" so I left the topic die.
The only time a closed topic would be bumped to the top is if the mod posted, thus bumping the thread, to explain the reason of closure or to simply tell people that it's closed. |
