"In politics, a moderate is an individual who holds an intermediate position between those generally classified as being left-wing, liberal, or socialist and those seen as right-wing, conservative, or capitalist. An alternate definition, and one widely held among swing voters, is that a moderate is one who has firm convictions on all issues, yet some convictions fall just to the left of the spectrum and some fall just to the right.

Political moderates usually seek conciliation between the views of various political parties, and often take positions partially derived from opposite views." -Wikipedia

YES OMG THANK YOU.

Obviously I'm not a member, but I'm so glad this is here. Where are the right-wingers?

Oops, clearly I can't read.

Being a moderate doesn't mean a person can't make up his mind on any issues; it just means that his decisions and opinions don't fall along a single political spectrum. One could say a moderate is better at making up his mind, because his thinking doesn't need to conform to the ideologies of a single political party or church.

We made up our mind about not dividing our loyalties to any specific party and are forced to align ourselves with those who are more extreme than us.

Though it looks a position of "no position" to others, it is a position of those who are not ruled by the certitude (or should I say dogmatism) of the left and right, one that is never complacent.

This is not to say that we support moderation in principle, but that our principles are not anchored to any party's predetermined policies.

And, of course, what Michael said as well.

More to the point, not taking a position on the political spectrum should not be confused with not taking a position on specific political issues.

I think it's better to say "This is how I feel about this one, specific issue," rather than to argue, "This is my opinion on a vague political spectrum that has little to do with specific issues."

On the political Cartesian plane, moderates would belong somewhere around the origin. Screw the "spectrum"!

I dunno if being moderates and only know each other over the Internet is an excellent basis for a marriage; then again, Fae, we probably have stronger bond than a lot of couples that get married these days. wink.gif

Jason... Jason... who? Remember that I chose Michael because he's uber smart and there's not that big of an age gap between us.
