A funny, yet disappointing sign of the times in America's youth

I was walking through a park in my town the other day, waiting for my friend Noah to pick me up, when a voice called out to me, "Dippery!" I looked over and saw my friend Corey's little brother Ryan hanging out with his older brother, Evan. I haven't hung out at Corey's much since we both went to school, but I used to go there a lot. Ryan is a good deal younger. Probably nine or so now, but he would've been about six or seven when I used to hang out at Corey's house. You know how little kids development an attachment with their older brothers' friends a lot? Ryan always seemed to like me, so I went over to say hi.

He said, "Hey, what are you doing here?"

"I'm waiting for my friend Noah to pick me up, we're going to hang out."

"Oh. I have a friend named Noah, too."

"Oh yeah?"

"Yeah! He's such a dork!" He proceeded to tell me some story about his friend Noah chewing a lot of gum and sticking dirt in it and spitting it at people. You know how little kids talk a lot about things that don't make much sense. Anyway, he summed it up with, "Yeah, my friend Noah is a real dork—and he's gay."

He said it so matter-of-factly that I was taken aback. "Oh...really?"

"Yeah. His dad's gay, too."

Well, Evan was smirking a bit, so I thought I'd slip in a few jokes. "Oh, he is? Well, is he married?"

"Yeah—but his wife's not gay. Only he is," Ryan assured me.

"Oh, really?"

"Yeah. Everyone is gay in that family, except the mother and two of the kids."

"Really?"

"Ryan, do you even know what gay means?" his brother, Evan, interjected.

"No."

"Well, then how do you know if he's gay?"

"I just know!"

"But you don't even know what it means."

"Well, I know he's gay."

"But do you know what it means?"

"No."

"So how do you know he's gay?"

"I have ways of telling."

"But you don't even know what it means. Maybe it's not a bad thing. Maybe being gay is okay."

"No, it's not. Being gay is bad."

"But you don't even know what it means, so how do you know he's gay!"

"Because Corey said 'All Moyers are gay!'" Ryan yelled and stormed off.

I couldn't help but chuckle. "Yeah," I said to Evan, "that seems like what Corey would say. I guess he still has quite an influence on Ryan."

I completely agree with the title of this topic. It is sad, but amusing in the least.

Aww, that's horrible. Very funny. but sad. See how it does absolutely no good to hide things like homosexuality? Arghh, that really annoys me.

Yeah, that's what I thought, too. I was disappointed with how it is drilled into kids at an early age that "gay is bad"—before they even know what being gay is.

I know what you mean about little brothers getting attached to their older brothers friends. This one kid named Cody follows me everywhere and all he does is talk about video games, especially the Zelda and Mega Man series. laugh.gif Sometimes I'm annoyed but I never let on. I don't want to hurt the kid's feelings or anything.

Anyway, I think it's pretty sad too. I don't like it when people say things like "That's gay!" although I have said it myself before. pinch.gif I don't anymore.

Indeed, its quite fun that kids "know" that being gay is bad before they even want to be in heterosexual relationships.

...I miss the times when Lucy would tell Ethel & Fred to be "Happy and Gay" to help cheer up Ricky.

Wow
That was funny
I love how the word gay has been made into some sort of new word like....Retarded? or stupid.......Yeah

Well
Kids do seem to pick up a lot from their older siblings, my brother is in seventh grade, AND HE TRIES TO BE LIKE ME ALL THE TIME. It's so annoying. hearing him overstating my statements that i say, then just yeah, you all probably know what i mean...

you dont have to feel bad. "Gay" is used as two terms. One is for "stupid" and "homo".

anyways, that's funny. well. at least, he learned to talk.

now, he should learn to understand what he's saying. ;]

That's hilarious. laugh.gif I saw these 10 year old girls at the mall today getting their make up done (thickly, by the by) at the Mac counter at the mall. Wearing turquoise micro mini tiered skirts. I've lost faith in young people.

Go with the flow right? laugh.gif

I haven't lost hope in todays youth just yet.
The parents are still old fashioned... thus not watching a gay kid!
