Is your display name the same as your login name?, wtf.

Gonna be totally honest, I didn't even know about this. mellow.gif

When you register, you have two options. You can choose a login name and also the name that everyone else sees.

Eh. Just seems a bit confusing to me. However, it does explain why sometimes people in the layouts section have different usernames than what shows up in their profiles.

DAMN.
I was wondering about that...like with people's layouts..I'll accept it and it's under one username..and then they'll PM me on another and I'll be like WTF.

But that definitely wasn't there when I registered. ermm.gif (Atleast, I don't think sweating.gif)

Hey Dani, I asked Arjuna and he said you need permission from an admin to change it. It's so you can keep all your posts and stuff but you can change your name so you no longer have to unregister your old one.

Wow, I was so confused, haha! So anyway, do you people think it's a good idea? Now that I understand how it works, I like it. I just wish it would've came sooner so I could've kept all my old posts from my old username. XD.gif

Well, Ok. Brenden pretty much said everything for me. rolleyes.gif

The only thing is that you keep your PPD as well. So if you've been idle for a long time and want to raise it, you're probably better off making a new account.

They were different; Julie. for login and autodidact. on the forums, but now they're the same. I liked being able to login with Julie-dot, but it's okay the way it is now _smile.gif.

No, it doesn't affect your post count or your account. Just your username that shows up/the one you login with.

no, i think the thing is, mona submitted those back when her username was gotnoheart, but since she had a name change, those weren't updated. it's the same way if you go back and read old topics. if someone with a name change is quoted, the name on the quote box doesn't change, but the name on the original post is different than the one quoted.

*nods* I'm assuming so. But it happens for new users, too, anyone who chooses something different for his or her display name.

I have the feeling that we're about to get it explained to us, though.

edit; I was late. Right, but late. XD.gif

I had to look at the register page, too. People kept mentioning display names but I didn't know what they were talking about. huh.gif

probably because someone took the name that they originally wanted but they want to keep it so they can remeber it and they put something else that they wanted in the other one.

I really don't know

Yeahhhhh we got that it's there. Again, we still don't know why...what does it do? Why do you need a different login/display?

That picture didn't help explain that. wink.gif

Ok. Here's how it goes.

You know how people register but then later, they want to change their name? Well, instead of completely unregistering that user name, they can simply keep it and change their display name so they don't lose their old posts and keep their PPD, PM's, and what not. Changing their display name will change the name seen on all your posts, even previous ones. Get it? tongue.gif
