I was on a forum and we were asked; If you found out your child were gay, what would you do? People (Most of them being Americans) said that they wouldn't be surprised, considering the fact that being gay is the new trend.

Is that true or are they just being stupid?

If there's a topic like this, please provide me with the link and close this. Merci beaucoup.

Well it's either a new trend, or that more people are coming out. Ever since homosexuality started to be accepted (not that there's anything wrong with that), a lot of kids get so confused once they get hormones and think they're gay =x

I don't really think of someone's sexual preference as a trend

i mean, some people don't WANT to be homosexual.

well last year in 8th grade, a lot of kids were like, "I'm bisexual" whenever they're in a crowd or something. But when they go to parties and see a gay couple in action (whether it be TV or ..real action) they go like, "eww" explain that

I know. People are like 'I'm bisexual' but get grossed by watching same sex couples kiss?

I agree.

Also, there are some kids *cough* who think that pretending they're gay when they're really not will make them seem cooler & give them more attention, so yeah, it kind of has become a trend in a sense when you think about it. But of course, there are those who are actually gay.

Yeah this past school year, out of nowhere, all of these lesbians and bisexual people started popping out of nowhere. Like wtfrick?

I think at least half of the people in my school think they are, and say so. But I don't think that just saying so makes you what you say.

I think saying you're bi is a trend. I seriously don't think I have really met a person that is ACTUALLY bi. I usually see them acting more like gay, but they "want" to like girls or something like that. So I think being bisexual is a trend, but not being gay.

People that are gay have just come out of it more than they have in the past. That's why they are "popping out" from nowhere.

I think the bi thing is definitely a trend; a lot of girls say they're bi even if they're not because it's "sexy" or something. I don't think too many people would say they were full-on gay if they weren't just to fit in or something...

If by trend you mean an increase of people who are openly gay, then yes, there is an upward trend.

I am gay, and my father believes i am doing it as a trend, im not.
I think the reason more people are coming out now, is becuase being gay is becoming more excpeted among peers, JSUT NOT SILLY CONSERVATIVES LIKE BUSH
but thats why more people are comng out now-a-days.

But being Bisexual seems to be a trend.

I suppose, I think its just more accepting with the media and such. So more people may be coming out instead of fearing what others may think as much as perhaps in the past?

Although it is getting a little to much out there so perhaps it is just another stupid trend.

People may just be confused since its so accepting that they may think that they will be accepted more if their gay instead of straight which is a little weird to think of..

I remember seeing a movie with my girlfriend once about these highschool kids and they have a "gay" group of people. One guy said he wasn't gay and everyone started to give him looks and they started to think he was weird. I don't know if this signifies anything. But I think people feel more comfortable coming out because many other people are.

From my observation, especially among college girls in my area, calling themselves bi is a trend. It's silly really, usually their answer when asked why they are bi is because "they get the best of both worlds". When I asked one of my friends, who calls herself bi, would she ever seriously date a girl in a monogamous, serious relationship, she laughed and said of course not, that her feelings toward woman are purely sexually driven and nothing more.

how is being gay a new "trend" in america? that makes no sense and i think that gay people would take offense to that. yeah, a lot of people might get confused during their teenage years about what their orientation is..but i dont think that they'd choose to be gay because "everyone's doing it" (which i doubt is true in the first place).

Yes.

People are starting to be more open-minded and/or ... becoming more "open" to the society to accept the facts.

however, it's not always true when people claim to be one.

which MOSTLY happens to teens due to "hormones"(sp?).

That's the question I'lld love to know the answer to. What is SO hot in being gay? Do people just crave attention SO much that they'll actually stoop that low (lying about their sexuality). Where I live, Bisexuality is more accepted than homosexuality. I am bi, probably the first bisexual to say it out loud in my school. People don't mind, actually they think I'm straight.

There was a metrosexual in my school, everyone thought he was gay, he had a really tough time.

Why are things in America so different?

That's the question I'lld love to know the answer to. What is SO hot in being gay?

Different circles or social groups have different things they admire. High schools are chock-full of them. Some people find it admirable to be gay just because it's "different". High schools (at least in America) are full of this sort of one-upmanship. Everyone's trying to be more different. I'd say the reason that some groups admire homosexuality so much is the same reason that some groups admire people who profess to love the most obscure movies or bands—because it's "different".

Nice analogy =]

I agree. Some people (mostly females) claim to be bisexual in my school. It's quite odd, though. They'll admire guys, but never turn their heads for a girl. Trend? Heck yeah.
