What I Should Say, It's the most cliche, overly repeated statement in the world.

I'm sorry about
being so terribly bad at finding the words,
I'd beg you just not to lose your nerve
when you stop and confront me about this

I know it's hard
when I'm uncapable of being honest,
but I never said I wouldn't try

But you know the truth is

(It's a promise)

So don't go and stare up at the sky
hoping one night you might spy
a shooting star

(I wouldn't want you to get your hopes up)
Only to watch them come crashing down

I'm sorry to tell you the truth, but
Some dreams are a lot farther
and life gets a lot harder
than you think

(But I'd never tell the truth about love)
Cause I wouldn't want to hear how it would sound

Some things just can't be said,
and I know how badly you'd rather keep it that way
But I know you hear it in your head
I'm only being overdramatic when I say,

This artistic triumph
doesn't come with much to win
but late nights and tired lamplights

and shaking palms that can't hold this pen right

Let some sun in and keep those curtains open,
Try and keep your mouth shut and don't speak what can't be spoken

(So when the snow is falling, and it's my name you're calling)
Remember sometimes it's easier to just not turn around

So hold onto your chances,
and your lingering glances,

Those books and those moments I asked you to cherish

(Because this is the first time since I could remember)
That you helped me write the perfect song

To say what I could never say before

So keep looking across that empty shore
For those blinking stars
you can see them shooting

And maybe someday I'll be able to tell you

The words I should've said then,

Should say now,

And might not ever.

A/N

So this is the first time I've ever written a song. It doesn't have music. If there's anyone even slightly musically talented that reads this, I'd love you if you could write music for it. That's it.
