I'm in highschool, going into grade 10 in September. My best friend said that she wants to set me up with a guy she's friends with - I said okay, I'm interested. The thing is, he's going into grade 12 in September.

I don't know whether or not I would want to date a guy that much older.

So, my question is, how much older would you let a guy be if you were deciding whether or not to date him, or, how much older is your significant other, and is age important to you, especially if you're in high school.

Oh..and if you want to let me know what you think about if I should give the guy a chance, that'd be great too. _smile.gif

I wouldn't go out with a guy more than two years older than me or more. I mean,I would be in a relationship with them. Haha I don't know why. I think we'd be too different. There are exceptions though. I think a year older is better though.

My boyfriend is six months older. Haha.

Well I'm in highschool, but I'm homeschooled so I don't really care what other people think and such. My boyfriend is 20, and I'm 15. I don't mind his age at all.

It's only two grades. It's very common and not a big deal.

Ive dated guys up to 5 years older than me. Sometimes it was okay, sometimes it wasn't. It doesnt depend on the age it depends on how mature or immature they are.

Two years isn't a big deal at all. However, if you stay together, you might have some rough spots when he heads off to college the following year... because you'll still have another two years left. But hey, I'd say to give it a shot, this just might be an amazing thing that could happen to the two of you... you never know. Don't let the age difference bother you too much.

Yeah, I definitely think that I agree with 1-2 years older, but, I'm going to be 15 soon.

By the time my friend would introduce us (because she's on vacation right now), I'd be 15 and he'd be 17. So I'm not sure..

In my opinion, 2 years, ha, no big deal. My boyfreind is 19, i'm 15. Yeah, age is no big deal to us. And i think that dating older (or younger) people in bigger chunks once you hit like...16 because yo are more mature i guess. idk, in most cases anyways.

A lot of people date people older then what they are. Some women date younger men cause some men are attracted to older women because of there maturity or features. But it's mostly women dating older guys cause of there maturity or something about the guy. Age is just a number maturity shows your real age in reality.

I guess it really depends on you. Some people prefer closer to age like 2 years apart. Others say age doesn't matter. It's really up to yor taste and if the guy seems good get to know him. I mean it doesn't hurt to get to know someone and maybe once you get out of highschool and you two are still in touch well you can hook up right? Yeah haha.

I've dated a guy 4 yrs older than me? I'm 15 now and he's 19.
But I guess I prefer 2 yrs apart at least.

It's all a personal preference.
A guy that I sort of like right now, is about 4 and a half years older than me, but I tend to see him more as a role model then a crush because he's so much older. We're both Christians, we have similar limits and I know nothing would work out because of those limits. And, of course, my parents. My Dad's really overprotective and doesn't even like me being FRIENDS with 19 year olds- (I'm 15, this guy's almost 20)- and the last time I liked a 17-year-old, my Dad flipped. The only reason I'm friends with the older guys I am, is because they're from church and he trusts them.

On the other hand it depends on the guy. If he's a nice guy, who's willing to move at your pace, and work with you instead of trying to get something from you, then go for it- as long as your parents, and most importantly yourself, are okay with it. Be cautious but don't miss out on an opportunity because a guy's 2 years older... In my opinion, when you're in high school, it doesn't make much of a difference : )

i agree with the person above me^

but really, i think it does matter if you want it to matter. in highschool, it's whether you want to be with someone with more experience or less experience. i think in your situation would be fine

well .. when i was in 9th grade .. i dated a guy who was in 11th.. its not that bad .. you should look at the maturity level of both you and him .. and also .. he is older then you and most likely more expierienced then you .. so watch out for that if u arent raedy to do anything .. i am 16 now and my boyfriend is 18 soon to be 19 .. i think you will be okay with dating him ..

My brother's girlfriend is 18, and my brother is 16. Lol... that's even weirder.

My dad is 5 years older than my mom...

I don't know. Age gaps that large aren't uncommon. I think it's fine, just so long as you want to date him :]
