okay, people can join anytime they like. BUT, let's get some discussion in here.

i don't really like bollywood movies, but it's the desi club so we have to talk about them.

SO, according to mona, she saw 'fanaa' starring kajol and aamir khan, who are both excellent actors. i plan on seeing it.

if you're not indian and you have absolutely no clue what i'm talking about, just read this article.

but if you're too lazy to read that, i'll tell you right now: bollywood movies are incredibly cheesy, over-the-top dramatic, unrealistic and MUSICAL. it's hilarious, really. one minute, two characters are talking about a girl in a city cafe, the next minute, the lovestruck boy is on a mountaintop with her, singing and dancing about how much he loves her. if you're looking for a good laugh, go see a hindi movie. you'll definetely find it.

and i watched this thing called bollywood idol, or something similar, and it was basicaly lik eamerican idol, but trying to find the next bollywood star. it was really interesting

Oh yeah, there's Indian Idol too. I don't have satellite or Dish Network though.

Not all Bollywood movies are bad. Some are really entertaining.
There's one coming out called Krrish. It's a bit like Batman/Superman. It's a sequel to a previously made movie about a boy who is disabled and gains cool powers when aliens come to visit Earth. (Unrealistic and melodramatic, like Radhika said.) Krrish supposedly has really awesome stunts and it came out already, but I haven't seen it. I'll be seeing it soon though.

The original is called "Koi Mil Gaya" translating to I've found someone. It's sci-fi. This one is like E.T. the Extraterrestrial.

Got this off wikipedia: An Indian scientist creates a computer that can communicate with aliens from outer space, but is killed in a car accident before he can reveal his work to the public. His pregnant wife survives the wreck but her son Rohit, when born, is mentally retarded.

His mother raises him with tender care and he grows up to be a young man of limited intellect but loving heart. His character impresses a young woman named Nisha and after some initial clashes, they become close friends.

They find the alien-contact computer and summon the aliens by accident. The visiting aliens leave quickly and one alien is left behind. Rohit and Nisha find him, befriend him, name him Jadoo (meaning "Magic" in Hindi/Urdu), and hide him from the authorities (who would like to imprison and investigate him).

Jadoo senses that there is something wrong with Rohit and uses his uncanny powers to "fix" Rohit. Rohit not only becomes normal, he becomes "supernormal". He is super-intelligent and super-strong. He and Nisha fall in love.

However, the government has not given up. Police capture Jadoo, who is rescued by Rohit. Jadoo flees in his spaceship and apparently takes Rohit's new powers with him. Rohit is again mentally retarded -- which saves him from prosecution by the government.

But this is not the end. Jadoo restores Rohit's special abilities -- permanently. Nisha and Rohit can now lead a happy life, together.

Yeah, it seems so cliched. Most movies have happy endings. Although it seems that way from my examples, not every Bollywood movie is a remake of a Hollywood one.

Shiiit. I have too many to list! But I'll try:
-Naan, chapaati, puri, paratha...all the breads, pretty much.
-CHAAT!
-Chole. 'Nuff said.
-I like palak paneer and saag paneer, too.
-I also love the sweets. Gulab jamun, laddu, barfi, kheer...yum.

And yet I'm South Indian. I don't like South Indian food all that much.
You guys should try Indian food. It's actually pretty friggin awesome.
Funny how I'm listening to Juanes while typing all of this. rolleyes.gif

I'll make a banner if I get a chance; if not, I'll just link it.

Hmm. Food!
I love tandoori chicken, naan/paratha, kheer, ladoo, palak paneer, laal saag, chat, bhel puri, vada, pakora. My mom makes the best gulab jamun and rasmalai in the world! Ooh, chole is one of my favorites too! And so is bhindi ka bhujia. Hey! If your parents ever make bhindi ka bhujia (you know, okra), add some frech cut onions and mash it a bit. Eat that with roti or paratha. It tastes delicious!

Ok, I need a break. My mouth is watering. I'll be back though.

Yeah I love Indian sweets mostly.
Sometimes I get tired of Indian dishes, but we're the best when it comes to cooking chicken. I just hate having my sinuses unclogged three times a day. (Curry tops everything in my house)

Don't forget daal and roti. I rarely eat roti myself but in my house, it's always roti, rice, daal, and some sort of bhujia or subji for dinner. If not, then it's mac&cheese or noodles for me. :D

OOO devdas! that's like one of the only indian films i've ever watched! it's so sad at the end. I started to cry.
And hush-it doesn't suck.
Erm..indian food...is good?
And getting of topic for a bit, has anyone seen the movie American Desi?

Yes, I've seen both Devdas & American Desi.
I don't care if Devdas is good or not, I'm not sitting through 5 hours of Shahrukh Khan getting drunk. No thank you. I'd much rather read the book.

American Desi...the girl was kinda ugly. I actually didn't really like it, but I saw it when I was only eight or whatever. So I don't really remember it.

Ah same (about American Desi) but I loved how his white friend always bowed when he saw Indian parents. That's the only thing I remember about the film.
And watching Sharukh Khan get drunk scared me, which made me feel bad for him (in some strange way), which inturn made me cry.

^Okey doke.

And Hindi movies would be better if it weren't for the cheesy songs. Oh, and if they weren't so damn long.

^Agreed. But you get use to having your butt grow numb after a couple movies.
I hate it when aunties and uncles come over 'cause then all they seem to do is watch indian movies. And it's like ordering something from Pizza Hut makes you totally americanized. stubborn.gif

Ah, I see, James.
Mona, that movie was so tiring. Omg, it just...AAH.

Is it okay if I move this to the Lounge? This club seems to consist of more than just movies & music. I'll do that.
