so im going on a first date and im not a very good conversationalist. lol if thats a word but whatever ive got a phobia of awkward silences. i really hate them. so how should i start a conversation cause its just going to be me and the guy this time.
 id realy appreciate some replies on this. thank you <3 <3

How old is this guy u like?
U could ask him a bit about himself u know : about his brothers/sisters if he has, what he does w/ his friends, mention a movie u like ask him if he likes it too,tell him u'd love to know if he went on a trip this year and if he did were..Ask him if he practises any sports or sth like that.. Boys like it when they talk about themselves. Try to show interest in what he's actually telling you and also speak too. Tell him about similar experiences u had.. It totally works! Once you start talking u r gonna feel a lot more relaxed and u'll have fun. U could start like: so what's on anything new from your family?is everyone ok? I know these akward silences.... just mention sth about the place you are like: it's beautiful do u come often here? or I hadn't been here b4 it's really cool and things like that. Make him feel that u really enjoy the date.... I hope I helped a bit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Good Luck!

Heh I had the same problem with this guy last year. I memorized Blue Collar jokes because he's a fan of that stuff and brought it up during awkward silences. But we really didn't have many of those. Usually just looking at each other made us crack up. Our conversations were nothing more than peals of hysterical laughter.

Ask him a lot of questions about himself. Maybe he's the type who loves to talk on and on, but even if he never shuts up you won't have to deal with those awkward silences. ;D

well there's alott of things you could talk about.
for one, you could tell him funny/embarassing things that have happened to you (not too personal though, lol) to get him laughing and stuff, he'll probably tell you some of his stories also. or you could ask him questions like "whats the craziest thing you've ever done" ... just things like that. im sure he'll have alot to say =) o yah and if theres like awkward silences just laugh... or something lol and when he says what youre laughing at say hes really cute or something. i dont know, thats what i do. haha. |

YOU GOT THE POWER! dont be afraid. go along with emma sue. indeed, make yourself interested in each other as well as knowing each other. laughing is a good thing, not too much like a clown, though. also, simile at him when he looks at you in the eyes.

Well, one would hope that you knew him well enough to be able to say something, but you could talk about what's going on, family, friends, some activites he might be involved in, clubs, stuff like that. There's a billion things you could talk about. Just find something comfortable.

Actually I'm more of a random type person. Just talk about the surroundings or evne talk about awkward silences. For example I was with my guy friend and it was really quiet so was just like gosh I don't like awkward silences and he laughed and made a comment and we went from there and then the next time we had a awkward silence I would just say something or throw a hint like "yeahh so the awkwardness is here againn haha"
That could help but not everyone can get random. Sometimes it's even hard for me because my mind will just go completely blank every once in a while

i really dont know why this is so hard for ppl.
in a conversation, its really simple to talk. just dont talk about yourself, thats for the other person to find out. just say anything about him, then he should talk back and then things move slowly from there ^-^ |

its gonna be awkward in the begininng lol theres no getting around it...
 just try to keep the small talk going in the beginning talk about surroudnings, what u did today, ex: if ur going to a resturunt, ask if he's been there before, where else he goes, if the foods good, whats his fav food, etc. Ask him quesitons about himself. pretty simple, factual stuff first. if he's polite he'll answer then ask them back to you...then go into hobbies, funny stories, trips etc. sooner or later if u two are "clicking" he'll start relaxing and asking u questions on his own too. If he makes a good joke, laugh a lot, remeber it and see if u can bring it up again cuz they'll love that u were payign attention  Have a sence of humor and don't try to be perfect...he'll probably think ur quirks are adorable. aaand...ok im running out....hope that helped? bascially, jsut be ready to talk, sound/look interested and smile, laugh, smile, laugh~

Oh, haha I worry about that too. I have never been on an actual date though but I asked my guy friend what I should say when we have an awkward silence and he just said "What's on your mind?" I think thats a pretty good choice since when people stop talking, they're usually thinking about something.
