sending leaves spinning past our feet, dancing around our legs
circling overhead against the breeze that's tugging them free from limbs
because winter is coming and needs to bury what's no longer green

It's deep summer and the clouds have decided to move out
because the sun has sucked cloud tears dry from the sky
the only ones that can bathe in its heat are the crocs
in our little inlet where with fearful laughter
we watch the water flow and carry
