Seriously, I don't know how one would go about pronouncing "pwn". Some people say "paaaaawn", but some say "pooooooon". Something random I was wondering about.

"pwn" - to "own" or basically, to show someone up. I think it came from when someone made a typo and typed a p instead of an o.

It's "poan", because the word is derived from "own". (There are a lot of Warcraft III players who pronounce it "pawn", though, because in the DOTA mod for War3, when one player kills another player's hero, the player is said to have "pawned" the other player's head for gold.)

Am I the only one who pronounces it exactly like it's spelled (P-wn)? On the handful of occasions that I did actually say it.
My friend keeps telling me to say "pawn", but I can't pronounce it quite the correct way like that. There's some sort of freaky pitch change he does that I can't do. |

it's pronounced own, because of a stage in WoW or some other game that the word "own" was misspelled as "pwn"

I don't use either but I've heard it as pawn.
It kind of made sense to myself. I'm not an internet gamer at all but when someone "owns" you, that kind of sucks. But if they "pwn" you it's like they owned you but sold you which sucks even more because they pawned you in a pawn shop which in my mind is like a cheap, secondhand shop. |

i believe it's supposed to be "pown" because it's an internet joke of how people want to type something quickly and make typoes. It's the same thing as the joke of !!!!1 <~~ the "1" at the end is a typo. The same thing applies to "pwn" because people want to say "own!" and accidently type the p instead of the o. ^_^
